Well, I'd just say change your thread title. Sounds like you got a good deal, but the title suggests this is a thread for the best clearance deals of 2003 or something.

I've been car shopping for a month or two and this was the best deal I've seen. Have you seen anything better?

Keep in mind that when you go in to trade in that car, it will be worth less because it's a year older (even though to you it's brand new). If you trade/buy only ever 5-7 years or so, it won't be a big hit, but if you buy new less than that you'll probably lose a lot of what you're saving now.

Kellys Blue Book and Edmunds knock off $500 of the value of the car when a new year is introduced. Seeing how this is a $6,000 saving, the $500 hit doesn't equate to much at all.

I checked carsdirect.com - new Mitsubishi Galant DE (black) in Sac Ca - 13,500 + tax/lisc/title.
This is still a great deal - like 5K from invoice.
I bought a toyota van last year from carsdirect + it was a great experience, ZERO hassle. I was at dealer for 30 min and had my van. NO HASSLE.

I guarantee unless you're trading in a dodge neon or some other cheap car like that you'll take a bigger hit than $500 for a model year change.

I'm not dissing the idea - I just bought a 2003 passat a week ago myself and saved. But you have to take this into consideration - I keep my cars for 5+ years.
