Ubisoft's new tool to fight PC piracy

"Altogether on console, the piracy is low," Guillemot said. "On the PC the piracy is quite a lot. We are working on a tool that would allow us to decrease that on the PC starting next year and probably one game this year."

Huh??!! AFAIK, the xbox360 and Wii are easy to pirate for aren't they? I myself have a PS3 and I don't think people have been able to pirate games for that yet.

lol The guy's a tool for making this claim. I mean seriously.. a "tool" that will help decrease piracy.. can't wait to see what that is..

I've had a good amount of respect for Ubisoft recently as some of their PC titles have been released DRM free (Prince of Persia, HAWX, Call of Juarez, Bound in Blood), all of which I bought. But if they start using some ridiculous DRM "solution" i'm going to stop buying games from them.

Correct on all counts, but I imagine it's still probably much less wide spread.

it depends what your definition of 'easy' is.

to us computer tech savy people, yes, it is fairly easy.

but comparing how 'easy' it is to pirate on consoles compared to PC's, it is a lot harder.

I don't pirate games I just take the CD keys from my gamestop because they leave those in there and the people who work in gamestop don't even care because they let us do it

They may think they are assuring the shareholders, but whatever they're new "technology" is, it'll fall like the others.

On the 360 you risk being banned from Xbox live or not using Xbox live altogether.

im thinking that you have nothing on your side, you're just a fucking theif whos either too lazy or stupid to even pirate in the conventional way.

no matter how someone avoids paying for a game that a company has spent millions of dollars and thousands of hours developing they are essentially ripping them off.

yes the security on alot of these programs is a pain in the arse, but if dickheads didnt keep stealing the programs EA Ubisoft and every other company wouldnt have to use it.

personally, i think that todays methods are alot easier to deal with than the old style of what is the forth word on the sixth line on page 76 of the users manual, sure they are a little annoying, but id prefer having to have a disc or my mac address matching some file hidden on the system somewhere to having to pay extra for manuals to be printed again so i could flip through them to find the key word

Basically you've shoplifted baddmrchocolate. I was at target the other day and went to pick up a $10 on sale DVD..and behind it was a manual for COH:Tales of Valor. I knew immediately what it was doing there...the back bottom half of it was ripped off. That's where the CD Key portion is. So some jackass came in opened the box, took out the manual, put the box back and hid the 'torn' manual in the DVD section and left with just the CD Key. How is that not stealing?
