Just noticed that I am seeing some ads on sites, and some sites are "adjusting" for the ad (size adjustments), even though the ad isn't there, yet. Time to go searching again.

What are you guys going to?

I assume there is going to be a lot more plugins who are getting remade in WebExtension. However, as far as I am aware, a lot of developers are bailing out completely, which is unfortunate.

Just for the future - you want uBlock Origin, not uBlock. IIRC Origin was originally a fork of uBlock that ended up being maintained more often

The original maintainer gave up the project to someone, and that person immediately turned around and monetized it even though he didn't do any work. The original maintainer then forked it, and that project became ublock origin.

To all the people who are complaining that uBlock Origin is not working with Firefox 55.0.3 and Nightly 57:
Scroll this page to its bottom and click on "Development Channel".
Then install version 1.13.11rc0 from there. I bet it will work.
(No, I'm not the developer. I'm just an end user.)

I was also surprised and distressed to realize that uBlock Origins was no longer working (running) with Firefox 55, and there are quite a few posts about this under the "reviews" of the add-in on Firefox. The one I quoted above is the one I found most helpful. I installed this beta(?) version which is working well for me, with the added bonus that it no longer is labeled as "legacy". Note that the "this page" he is referring to is the add-in page for uBlock Origin on Firefox. Here's the direct installation link:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/.../ublock-origin/addon-607454-latest.xpi?src=ss

I offer this with the obvious YMMV. Try at your own risk.

I also found uBlock Origin not working after updating to FF55. All I did was uninstall the extension and reinstall it. The options button on the extension should come back and it will work again.

I am fairly certain that uBlock is no on WebExtension API? I had a couple of people report to me saying that it was properly rewritten, not too sure about it though.

Very recently, my multiple installations of FF Nightly, started showing up uBlock Origin's icon on the little icon area in the upper-right of the browser window.

So, it seems that it is working again. Whether this is because it was re-written as a "WebExtension" for the newer FF versions, I cannot say.

But, WFM (now).

IIRC, the nightly build require addons that used webextensions.

I know I won't be updating to 57 if the addons I want aren't supported / haven't been updated, rather use a fork of FF then.

I'll be able to checkout the new firefox at work when it's released, and decide what I'll do from there. I have debian stable at home, so it'll be legacy for a couple years.

Check the changelog for the latest uBlock Origin (the one you should be using) release[1]. It seems there is some interaction problems between the latest webextension version and some legacy addons (e.g. Greasemonkey). The author recommends disabling legacy extensions to see if that fixes the problem. Looks like it's just some teething issues moving to webextension (or some incompatibilities when you have a mix of the two). This should naturally go away with the move to a webext only model in FF 57.

I know that https everywhere[2], uBlock Origin (the one you should be using)[3] and uMatrix[4] are all getting webextension updates so there shouldn't be any worry there. All three of these have been moving towards deploying the webext model. If it still says legacy that just means the latest webext only version hasn't been pushed to their respective AMO[5] "official" release channels yet. As of writing this I know uBlock Origin has been updated to use webext.
