I'm an average user.
I use document, spread-sheet and presentation creation programs, I chat a lot by MSN, listen to music and browse a lot.
I've tested Windows VISTA through and through (I have all the TechNET courses passed and most WebCASTS taken) and have used it in more than a couple machines, including my laptop with i915 chipset which cannot run Aero.
Out of sheer curiosity, I installed Ubuntu linux, since I've read so many things about it, so I personally decided to give it a try after failed experiments with Mandrake and other distros.
Anyways, I SWITCHED. Its amazing how little resources it uses compared to windows... I was able to enable transparencies, shadows and animated windows with Ubuntu with no need for new hardware whatsoever... finding programs is incredibly easy using the "sudo apt-get" command, and I can't say I miss Windows AT ALL.
I just wish there were codecs or apps to read/do Office 2007, which my company uses. THEN I would migrate my personal workstation to Ubuntu as well.
In short, I'm VERY impressed, and this distro has become my new OS for personal systems. Its free, its easy, and its great... all my hardware was detected IMMEDIATELY, unlike with Windows VISTA, its been stable, fast, and reliable.
Before this week, I was 100% Windows. Not so anymore.
KUDOS to Ubuntu developers. Just a bit more and this will be a TRUE windows alternative for non-experienced users.
Just wanted to share my experience with you guys and recommend this software.
