I'm very new to using a home server, and am trying to learn. I have recently installed Ubunto server 20.04.6 LTS on a laptop to use as my server. After the installation, I am able to connect via SSH to the server from the command prompt in my Windows 11 desktop.

My intention is to find and install free software on the server, and/or my Apple devices and/or Windows 11 computer, to allow me to transfer photos and short videos from the following devices:
  • iPad
  • iPhone SE (current gen with 5G)
  • iPhone SE (previous gen without 5G)
Looking for software that can handle the transfers using only wi-fi, without using Bluetooth.

Also, when I had attempted to import photos & videos from the iPhone SE using a cable connection to the Windows 11 computer, the imported photos & videos were mostly corrupted after the transfer. I believe this is due to the iPhones using HEIF & HEVC formats, which the Microsoft Photos app attempted to convert to jpeg, with very bad results.

Does anyone have suggestions for free software to allow the wi-fi transfers (both directions) between the Apple devices and the Ubuntu server and the Windows 11 desktop? Do I even need the server, or is there software that I can install on the Apple devices and the Windows 11 computer to allow for the transfers?

All suggestions welcome, thanks to all.

Well on android I use cx file explorer. You just need something that supports smb/samba and then enable it on Ubuntu by installing samba and add the mount in the smb.conf file. Otherwise you can probably share from disks directly as well.

KDE Connect, available on every platform!

No need to use server. Manjaro or KDE neon desktop comes with KDE Connect. Newest KDE neon has installation problem however, I just tried, so choose Manjaro now.

Should be able to install KDE conneect on Ubuntu/Debian distros through commands
Bash:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install kdeconnect

After installation, go to Apple store and install KDE Connect for your Apple devices

You then pair them wirelessly (I tested with my Android phone)
