Now, BJ is going to need a stoppage to get the title back.
Outstanding performance by Edgar! Hopefully people take him seriously as the LW champ now. Whether you think he really won in Abu Dhabi, at the very least he was right on the level of BJ Penn who is recognized as one of the greatest of all time.
And here Edgar showed he is even better than Abu Dhabi. He seems to have great skills in all areas of MMA.
I think Frankie made BJ "seem out of it"... BJ could not handle Frankie's speed, and Frankie pretty much had the answer (pun intended) for anything BJ threw at him.Edgar destroyed him, but BJ seemed out of it from the first round.
Frankie is the Rodney Dangerfield of MMA. I would not be surprised if he is the underdog in the betting his next go.Steamrolled is a pretty good term for it. Finishing him off with a fairly quick armbar was the mercy Lauzon needed.
Edgar's strength and quickness combo is pretty impressive, not to mention his wrestling ability to not even let Penn hold him down...but Maynard is equally impressive and very efficient. Both have improved since they last fought, and I think this will be a very entertaining fight...edge to Maynard (but would love to see edgar take it...he works so d@mn hard.)
I read something I consider profound. Someone mentioned that a boxer gets to bring all of their tools to an MMA match. However, an MMA fighter has to leave most of their's behind for a boxing match.
BJ needs a new camp or head trainer. He looked horrible. He was completely passive and really just reacted and never went after FE until the start of the 4th and that was just a burst.
It's just disappointing because he can be so great but just seems to half ass it.
BJ's problem is what happens to most fighters, He no longer has the fire in his belly. I doubt any trainer or camp can light it again either. Only BJ can do that, and he looks ready to take a break. He should surf, have fun, and just get away from fighting for a while.this. very much this. his corner really let him down this fight, and has been letting him down. they had absolutely nothing for him garbage like "whoop this guy's ass!"
bj also seems to get really discouraged these days. if he doesn't perform in the first or second round he just seems to lose all hope quickly.
also, hopefully the freak show fights stop now in the UFC. toney should never have been in that cage, and now shaq wants in? really? i can see the draw, i guess, but it's making mma look stupid, even if it was a dominating win.
BJ vs Frankie was basically a continuation of their last fight. You'd think that BJ's camp would try to learn from the last fight and change things a bit seeing how Frankie moves in the ring, but he fell for the same moves. On top of it, it looks like Frankie improved a bit on his ground game. He won this one no questions asked.
he lets out a big yawn. Hardly the demeanor you'd expect to see from someone supposedly pumped up about trying to get his belt back from the man that took it from him.
