This card is STACKED. The Zuffa execs LOVE Canada for all the revenue they're bringing in.

GSP vs Shields

We have an insanely awesome matchup between the gods of LNP, GSP and Shields. Both have not lost in something like 4-5 years. Shields is coming off a crappy win over Kampmann and I believe it was because of that horrible cut, but he managed to beat Hendo who's now the SF LHW champ.

I have Shields with a huge upset via better BJJ and better LNP to dethrone GSP as the WW kingpin.

Jose Aldo vs Hominick

Aldo is a top 3 P4P, and he should run through Hominick in less than 2 rounds.

Lyoto Machida vs Couture

I have a natural hatred toward Machida because I was a Shogun supporter for 104, and still believe Shogun won 104. This is a very interesting fight but I think Machida takes this easily due to his speed advantage and youth. You can never count Couture out, though.

Ben Henderson vs Mark Bocek

I have Bendo winning this because he's very hungry for the UFC LW championship, and he's probably worked like a mad dog hungry and yearning for a title.

Well with Woosta in exile after the Bones domination of Mauricio Fatgun Rua, I figure I'd bump this old thread and get some UFC 129 talk going. It's a pretty interesting card. My predictions of the main card below:

Welterweight Championship bout: Georges St-Pierre (c) vs. Jake Shields: I think this will go a lot like the GSP-Koschek fight. Jake won't be able to take it to the ground, so he's going to get the shit beat out of him for 5 rounds. If the H-Bomb can't finish Jake, no way in hell Georges is going to finish him. I really hope I'm proven wrong. I like GSP and I'd love to see him get a finish, but short of an elbow that opens up an uncloseable gash or something similar, I don't see this being stopped by either guy. GSP by UD.

Featherweight Championship bout: José Aldo (c) vs. Mark Hominick: Joe-zay by however the hell he wants. Hominick has some nice technical standup, but Aldo is a killer. He's too strong, too fast, and is better in every area. Mark is getting this fight partly because he deserves it, but partly because he's Canadian. Aldo by KO, possibly a flying knee a la the Cub Swanson Massacre - in the 2nd.

Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz: Admittedly I've only seen Brillz fight once, and that was last year against Lil Nog. Matyushenko is older than dirt and I'd be surprised if he's not controlled pretty easily both on the ground and standing by the much younger Brillz. Brillz by TKO in the 3rd.

Light Heavyweight bout: Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida: I love Randy, so it's with a little sadness that I predict he'll lose his last fight in the octogon this saturday night. After losing a close decision against Rampage, Machida will come out aggressive and stop Randy in the 2nd with strikes. The alternative to this is Tentative Machida shows up again and Randy grapplefucks him, eaking out a UD due to effective striking, grappling, and that magical phrase MMA fans love so much: octogon control.

Lightweight bout: Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson: Short of Bocek popping off Benson's head, Pez dispenser-style in either an arm triangle or guillotine choke, he's got no chance of winning this. Bocek is pretty bad standing, and while he has wicked BJJ, Henderson won't give him a chance to use it, nor would he tap even if he got caught. I thought Donald Cerrone literally had killed Henderson in one of several guillotine chokes last year...and not only was he still alive, he escaped and won the fight. Henderson by Submission in the 3rd, guillotine choke

Shields is always the underdog it seems, this would be one of his only fights where it's justified. But Jake has great wrestling and sick ass Jits. I don't see Georges walking thru him like he did Koscheck. I actually think Jake will take it to the ground and get a submission in the 3rd. And if the poster I saw was the official one, wow no Capitan America on it? That's a shocker, that could turn out to be a pretty good match. Randy could come with a crazy upset here. I'd like to see Machida win though.

GSP vs Shields: i agree. GSP is just to good. it will stay standing and GSP will mess him up. though Shields has a shot..hell Seirra did it!

Aldo vs Hominick : again i agree. Aldo is a fucking machine.

Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz: no clue.

Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida: Randy has already said this is his last fight. I give it to Randy. he will pushi Machida up against the cage and get a victory. it will be a UD at that.

Mark Bocek vs. Ben Henderson: again i agree..

* i reserve the right to change my mind BEFORE the fight actually starts. Sometimes watching them walk to the ring gives me final decision

I haven't seen much of Shields fights but going off the Kampmann fight, I don't see how he can win. I think Kampmann is underrated, and has a great ground game. I know Shields gassed big time in that fight, but even in the first round, while he was able to get Kampmann down, he couldn't really do anything to him. I do think Kampmann lost that but he should have won. If Kampmann could beat a not very in shape Shields, then I think GSP should be able to easily beat an in shape Shields.

I don't know how Couture beats Machida even though I like him. Everyone always says how Couture can because he comes up with these crazy game plans, but honestly most of the time that is hold them up against the fence, dirty box, maybe get some takedowns. Not exactly a unique gameplan every fight.

A great card though!

Really hoping Shields pulls off the upset by submitting GSP -

55,000 crazy canucks will make the card one hell of a show.

GSP wants to tap Shields. I wouldn't want to be between GSP and something he wants. No one in the sport works harder or smarter.

Also, lol @ this thread being made a month and a half ago.

Iknowright? I did a search for UFC 129 and Woosta already made one. In March! LOL

More on Aldo...I don't have a ton of "favorite fighters"; the nature of this sport today in 2011 doesn't really lend itself to standing behind a fighter like you might support Manchester United or the NY Yankees. That being said, Aldo is one of my favorite fighters. And I'm really stoked for this card!

Aldo is one of my favorite fighters too. the guy is great and has amazing cardio.

i enjoy watching the lower weights more then the big fat guys. most are out of breath by the end of the 2nd round. where the lower guys go 100% all 5 rounds. hell guida is another freak. he NEVER stops heh

Good card. I wouldn't say it's stacked, but it's decent. Hell, I just saw a great prelim fight on FB with Jason McDonald and a fantastic submission.

I've got GSP, Aldo, Brilz, Couture, Hendo.

Is there something appealing about watching mostly naked men grapple and grope each other?
