UFC 163 Aug 3rd on PPV

Oh wow, no kidding... There are NO significant names outside of the top two fights.

Of course that doesn't mean it won't be an exciting night of fights, but it surely won't be burning up the PPV buys.

Jung is a replacement for Pettis who pulled out of the fight do to a knee injury.

Wow. I knew it was coming up but damn, that is a horrible PPV card. I don't doubt that it will have good fights, just not ones that I'd want to spend money on. The title fight should be great and the Machida/Davis fight could be great or be a bore.

Zuffa has done a good job of cultivating different revenue streams. I am guessing that means PPV is not as important to the health of the company as it once was.

But I agree the numbers will be low. Aldo does not do well in PPV sales compared to the bigger stars. E.G. Machida is good for approx. 500k when he headlines. But since he is not the main event he will not be able to bolster the sales as much.

Lyoto will chin check Phil no doubt in my mind. But if Davis can get the takedown, Machida could be in real danger. I'd like to see Lyoto land a few knee counters. I'd also like to see him switch stance more, the way he did against Bader.

Aug has 4 UFC events, another PPV at the end of the month. Pettis is on that card to fight Benson. At least there are 2 freebies in the middle.

Agreed. Davis doesn't have that fast of a shoot, so I can see that knee landing consistently. Could be an interesting battle.

Then again, I thought Macdonald/Ellenberger would be interesting.
