You must not know what pulling guard means because that definitely was not it. He lost balance going for his own takedown and ended up on his back.

Perhaps so. Earlier in the fight, it looked like Sonnen tried to take Shogun down, but lost his balance or something, and Shogun ended up on top. Rogan was saying how Shogun took Sonnen down, but it looked like Sonnen lost his balance to me.

Without a doubt, one of the best overall events in a long time. The UFC did a fantastic job kicking off MMA on FS1.
Overeem looked like he gassed after he failed to knock out Brown.

Did anyone else not care for the zoomed in camera angles they used at times. I definitely prefer the camera work in the normal PPVs

I was a little surprised Sonnen used profanity in his after fight interview with Rogan. There were people talking about how Sonnen is almost ready to be put out to pasture and be a commentator. That's not a bad thing, it's already been discussed he will make more money as a commentator than as a fighter. Maybe not as much gross but a commentator doesn't have to pay coaches, trainers, sparing partners and for training camps. Dana White mentioned in an interview a few months ago that Fox had offered Sonnen more to try and lure him away from the UFC.
I just hope some of the fighters will become judges and referees when they retire as a way to stay involved in the sport.

sonnen looked impressive unlike his last 2 fights. (altho his last 2 fights were for the belt.)

if he keeps this up, he might get a 4th chance at a belt. (0-3 so far)

if round1 and opponent is in trouble, do not use hands to finish him off, use elbows just in case he survives so u dont gas yourself

He's right up there. He only loses to the very best. Anyone else? Not a chance.

Sonnen only looked good because he was fighting Rua. The is not a knock on Rua, he has had amazing career with several highlight reel finishes but those days are over.
He only has 2 wins in his last 6 fights.
** A win against Brandon Vera who looked horrible in his last fight and was cut but reinstated when Thiago Silva had a dirty UA.
** A win over Forrest who on the downside of his career.

People were talking about if this would be Sonnen's last fight when they should be talking about if this was Rua's last fight.

There is a reason why Sonnen called out someone who isn't even top 10 right now.

Reem could still have some good matchups, if they keep him around. Roy, Struve, Meathead, Schaub, etc. Just had to turn his hype train in to burning wreckage before his fans would STFU.

LOLed heartily when Brown said Pyle was "better than GSP I guarantee."

I think Chael's plan is to put a few of the Pride legends on his resume before he is done. I would not be surprised if he went after Hendo later. After seeing Shields grapplefuck him it would not surprise me if Chael won.

So the question is, which fight is Dana talking about? I though all the fights were either good or great, I missed the facebook fights.

Lyoto should drop to MW, it’s where he should have been all along. Although I would like to see a rematch with Jones or Shogun.
I definitely think Chael has a good chance of beating Hendo, it’s a good stylistic matchup but Chael’s style would make Hendo gas.

Sonnen is one of the baddest cocky but good fighters out there, he man handled Silva the first fight through all 5 rounds and got submitted in the end. The second fight he made a mistake and that Silva capitalized on. The man may be a cocky SOB, but he is a great fighter, would help if he learned some more BJJ though but his wrestling and aggressiveness is stellar.

Yup I agree as well, lol. Yeah JBJ is a beast that roman grecan style is no joke either. I love BJJ and wrestlers as well, martial arts in general, Judo , sambo etc... MMA is great because it's a cluster frak of all the different styles and see who uses it the best.

But Sonnen is not going anywhere for a while and nor should he, he is a true gladiator!!!! WAR SONNEN!!!!!!

I wasn't talking about Sonnen overall as a fighter but he has fought as a MW for a reason. I think most of the 10 ten LHW would give him problems. His game completely revolves around getting people down and man handling them, he will have more success at that in his normal weight class.

If you think I'm wrong, who at 205 do you see him beating?
1) Jon Jones - No
2) Gustafsson - No
3) Nogueria - Sonnen would have a hard time out grappling him.
4) Teixeria would probably out grapple Sonnen or knock him out
5) Davis - possible win but Davis is a bigger stronger wrestler.
6) Evans - A bigger stronger wrestler
7) Hendo - Would be a good fight but hendo is really a MW.
8) Machda would pick him apart from the outside, has good TD defense
9) Rua - win by tiring him out
10) Bader - Sonnen has a chance against him

At WM Sonnen is #3, not near that level at LHW

The only other person I can see Sonnen getting an easy win over at LHW would be Mousasi. King Mo showed Gregard has a problem dealing with someone who has a strong wrestling base. plus Gregard isn't a big strong LHW unlike everyone else besides Hendo and Machida. All three of them prorbaly belong at MW.

I think he means the Hall fight. It was more bromance than fight. Sportsmanship and respect are great, but not when it significantly interferes with what you are paid to do. And is carried to the extreme we saw from them.
