Chris Weidman out of UFC 173 with knee injury

UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled title bout against Lyoto Machida at UFC 173, UFC officials announced Monday.

Weidman (11-0) will require minor surgery after sustaining a knee injury in training. As a result, his title defense against Machida (21-4) has been moved to the main event of UFC 175, which takes place July 5, 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.

A replacement main event for UFC 173 is expected to be finalized in the coming days.

Hendo tweeted out: "Hey @danawhite, let me have @lyotomachidafw, just like you let him have @jonnybones when I got hurt @ufc"

I'd be down for that one!

Gina Carano is going to meet with Dana White today. She did an interview earlier this week, and she really sounds like she wants to fight again. She talked about how she's never performed up to her capability, and seems hungry to.

Sucks, Sonnen talked great trash and would fight anyone. Even if he lost to a bunch of people he wasn't one to back down from a fight. Some of his shit talking was way over the top, but the dude had personality and some funny lines. I REALLY wanted to see Sonnen Vs Wandy.

Wow, I bet the rumor of only 50k PPV buys was true!

This is good news in my opinion, especially if they are going to try to hire Scott Coker. He made Strikeforce a legitimate #2 option in MMA and is even highly respected by the UFC/Dana White.

This push towards making Bellator some amalgamation of MMA and professional wrestling has made the product unwatchable. The last few events have been utter shit. Their PPV was a joke.

Go back and watch Bellator events from in 2011 or 2012 - the energy was amazing and it felt like they had found the perfect niche. Growing their own talent, putting on good shows and staying out of the UFC's way. I guess it was around the move from MTV2 to Spike when it all started to fall apart.

Now they use UFC castoffs and fake drama to promote shows that can't even match RFA, MFC or Legacy in terms of entertainment value.

It could all be Viacom fuckery and Rebney is just leaving because he can't sit around and watch Bellator die any longer. Hard to say who is at fault but at least they're shaking things up. Around 6 months overdue, in my opinion.

Yeah Chael Sonnen got busted AGAIN for steroids. This time the test was voluntary follow up.. he was already retired from MMA but took the test anyway and got busted for Human Growth Hormone (makes his gonads grow I guess) and EPO (so he can go long time.

What a moron, may have just cost him his FOX gig.

Yeah he was the only legit competion. I remember their last few fights on CBS. Rhonda Rousey vs Meisha, just a great... arm bar. (I was going to call it a fight). But they had nick diaz and he was fighting every few months now, he may never fight again.

Coker is a sell out. I remember seeing an interview with Nick Diaz he was saying that he thought "they were all fighting in strike force to keep the UFC at bay". (something like that) and then Coker sells all their contracts to the UFC.
