Everyone writes punk off because he was in the WWE. He is an amateur fighting another amateur. I hope he wins convincingly. I love "UFC purists" to have egg on their face.

Punk is 37 year old, gall is 24, i don't see punk hanging in there with a 24 year old. They should of given him an older amateur.

Good luck with that. He looks as skilled and capable as a rock rolling up hill.

Hard to find 37 year old guys with less than a few fights though. The only thing really going against him is his age and lack of experience. I don't see him having a long MMA career or even challenging for a belt. But, writing him off because he was in WWE is stupid.

Still the determination and look on CM Punk's face in the preview of that match is brilliant. Though we have to see his body language before the match up. Win Loss in not a big deal for him right now, what's more important for him is to put up a great fight which is actually his first ever!

They should have gave him Mike Jackson, the guy Gall beat to "earn the right" to fight Punk.

Most of that card is meh to me.

I hope Yoel and Rashad pound the living shit out of Weidman and Kennedy.

Captain Madden speaking: Alvarez vs McGregor will probably make for an interesting fight.

That card isn't terrible, but McGregor really fucked over Aldo and the 145lbers.

I really don't think he can beat Alvarez either. But, I did think Diaz was going to be much quicker and not take as much damage in the rematch, so I may not be the best at predicting.

That's a solid ppv fight card imo, which will include the beginning of the end for McGregor. Looking forward to seeing Khabib fight, and hopefully they all stay healthy in the meantime (especially Khabib.)

Fight Card

Lightweight Eddie Alvarez (c) vs. Conor McGregor
Welterweight Tyron Woodley (c) vs. Stephen Thompson
Women's Strawweight Joanna Jędrzejczyk (c) vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz
Middleweight Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero
Welterweight Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Michael Johnson
Featherweight Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens
Middleweight Tim Kennedy vs. Rashad Evans
Women's Bantamweight Miesha Tate vs. Raquel Pennington
Middleweight Tim Boetsch vs. Rafael Natal
Lightweight Jim Miller vs. Thiago Alves
Welterweight Lyman Good vs. Belal Muhammad
Women's Bantamweight Liz Carmouche vs. Katlyn Chookagian

(/edit: some links pasted from wikipedia, some didn't.)

lmao. This deserves a quote.
I did hope he won. It would have been hilarious. He's an athlete, he had a game plan and some training, and ended up against a guy that was superior in every way. And, CM Punk is probably one of the best guys to ever be in the UFC, as far as a person goes. Anyone he's worked with say he is a great guy and has a great attitude.

And, unless Dobson was cutting massive weight for 125, I don't think he'll do anything at the top of 135. Cruz will tear him apart similar to what Mighty Mouse did.

It would have been amazing if Punk won and it would have been a slap in the face to people who said he had no shot, but only because he had virtually no shot. He sucked that much, at least compared to pro mma fighters he was attempting to take on. (and I don't say that because how he lost to Mickey Gall, but because that's how I felt after seeing his most recent training video before the fight.)

More power to him if he stays with it, but he would be smarter if he didn't (at the competitive level), since he's too old and unskilled (nor an athletic 'freak of nature') to start going against elite competition at this point in his life.

Speaking of, I'm very disappointed at the lack of Mickey Gall vs. Sage Northcut at UFC 205.

Yeah, Gall was a 3 win fighter, but he'd been doing MMA for years. Punk was really outmatched. I also think Punk will fight again. They will find another old, amateur guy and get another payday. If he doesn't significantly improve though, I'd imagine he is done.

And, apparently, Sage said they reached out and agreed right after the Gall call out. 205 is pretty stacked already. I don't think they could have fit them in.

there is no one on the ufc roster that punk could beat. This isnt tri-state mma this is where the best people go. Punk should of fought at lower levels but this was about making money not sport.
