Nate Marquardt has been fired from the UFC by Dana White after not being medically cleared for his fight! White posted a video making the announcement and said:

"I'm sure you heard that Nate Marquardt is out. It's true. He failed his medicals. Not only is he out of this fight, out of the main event on Versus, he will no longer be with the UFC."

Now, what that means isn't clear yet...but in his video announcement, Dana was pissed. I'm thinking he didn't make weight (c'mon...he wasn't a small 185) and that somehow made him fail his checkup (dehydration, arrhythmia, exhaustion, etc) or he was caught or admitted to using PED's or more likely, some banned substance to help him cut weight.

Dana hasn't been a big fan of Nate "the Great" recently, I recall him accusing Marquardt of choking in big fights and not getting it done. However, I don't think Dana would fire him for "not being medically cleared" if it was something unforeseen or life-threatening. It had to be something that Marquardt could have prevented or was his own doing.

I'll be interested in hearing the spin put out by both sides. I liked Marquardt and was hoping that he'd get back in the groove and make a run at the belt again.

I like Nate too, I think him cutting to 170 was a WTF move, he was already pretty damn big at 185. I was having a hard time picturing him being able to make the cut.

Credible sources have said making weight was not the issue. A lot of people are saying he has an STD but I think that's wrong too. IMO it's something related to PEDs or a diuretic. Either he tested positive or got caught trying to use someone else's urine.

Yeah, I've read some of the STD claims, but that doesn't sound right. He's married and has kids (and seems like a family man). Doesn't mean it's not true, but just doesn't wash for me. If it was something actually medical, I don't think Dana would be so mad.

It has to be something that is Nate's "fault" for him to be fired like that. I know he was already somewhat on thin ice, but even Dana wouldn't commit a PR faux pas by firing a guy for a legit medical reason.

I watched interviews with Marquardt within the last week where he said that the cut was going great and he felt better than ever. Probably not entirely accurate, but who knows? I always saw him as a "big" 185 and I was surprised when I heard he was dropping to 170.

After some searching, apparently, he was at 172.6 the day of the weigh in. NBC sports has a video showing him weighing in. Not "official", but it looks like he was going to make 170 easily.

So, must be either a diuretic or PED. I read nandrolone (which he's been caught using before). However, he must have either admitted to using PED's or got caught trying to beat the system somehow. Drug tests don't come back this fast and even if you test positive, they check the B sample to make sure.

Supposed to be a press conference today at 4 by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission. I'm betting they announce some admission by Marquardt or testing shenanigans.

There are PED that will assist in cutting. They aren't all about getting huge muscles. Many roid users will use steroids that are great for building huge amounts of muscles. On average, for every 10lbs of gains, you have 7lbs muscle and 3lbs fat. They then typically go on cutting roids that help them drop just the fat when cutting.

I am certainly not saying it is PED but if he got caught trying to fake a test, I can see him getting fired for that. He would have been better off just failing because he would like be able to fight in the UFC in the future.

Remember he has already been caught for PED's once, so it would sense if he got insta-fired for that. It's just a hunch but I'm guessing diuretics.

meh from what i read everyone knew he had it. They figured in the 6 week period he would get it cleared up since that's more then enough time to do it.

damn felt bad for Berry I like dude a lot, I know about half of the other refs would have probably stopped it when Barry had him down. Dan's one of those refs that either stops a fight too early or lets it go too long. That finish was something else. I think Dan fucked that fight up, he jumped in like he was going to stop it and didn't, even Joe thought the fight was over for a second.

Yep. PED's. I think it's a joke that so many athletes are "suffering" from hypogonadism (SBS...small ball syndrome) all of a sudden. Oh, you just happen to "need" a medical exclusion to take supplementary testosterone to get you back to "normal" levels?

Well, you know the #1 cause of low testosterone in athletes is? Anabolic steroid abuse. Say it ain't so, Nate! Oh wait, you did fail a drug test for Nandrolone a few years back. Hmmmmm....wonder why your nads have shut down...?

I posted a rant in Health and Fitness about "Low T". It's the new thing. Guess what, as we age, we're supposed to have decreased levels of testosterone. Look at how well HRT worked for women. Hot flashes? No prob, let's pump you full of estrogen. Uh oh, you have breast, cervical, and ovarian cancer....sorry. Guess that wasn't such a good idea after all.

There are a lot of "Dr."s that will give you a diagnosis for a price; sad, but true. Nate apparently was suspended by the New Jersey athletic commission earlier this year, too.

He got nailed because the doc gave him too much and he ended up above the acceptable level. I agree the HRT thing among athletes is fishy and it looks like they are starting to keep a closer eye on it.
