UFC Owners buy Pride

NEW YORK (AP) - The majority owners of Ultimate Fighting Championship have agreed to buy their biggest mixed martial arts rival, Pride Fighting Championships, in a deal that will establish megafights among the outfits' titleholders and possibly attract huge pay-per-view audiences.

Company executives declined to comment on the sales price, but a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press that brothers Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta will purchase the Japan-based Pride for less than $70 million. The person was not authorized to speak to reporters and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Maybe we will really get to see in the ring (or octagon) who is actually the best in the world at each weight class now.

I hope ufc doesnt burn out scheduling so many events too close together. Used to be every other month and now they are not even a month apart.

Yeah, but with all of these fighters to accomodate now, it's going to be hard not to have at least one a month. Maybe we'll get to see more free fight cards on Spike every other week?

i personally think pride is a little too liberal with their rules. i've watched a few fights where it was obvious one guy was getting the $hit kicked out of him and they kept fighting...better to have healthy fighters than crippled ones, but i also know they have to give the crowd a good show
