Description: The Ultimate Fighting Championship® makes its Philadelphia debut on Saturday, August 8th for UFC® 101: Declaration. In the main event, the two best 155-pound fighters in the world finally meet when UFC® lightweight champion BJ Penn looks to defend his crown against number one contender Kenny Florian. Penn has never lost at 155-pounds, and Florian is looking to change that stat this summer.

In the co-feature, the pound-for-pound king of mixed martial arts, middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva, tests the waters at 205 pounds once again when he battles former light heavyweight champ and Ultimate Fighter season one winner Forrest Griffin.

-----------
i predict Silva winning.
am i the only one surprised bj penn made it so far?

I'm not nearly as excited about this one as I was the last one but it always makes for a good time with friends. We will be having our usual UFC pizza party.

I dunno forest is a beast, he'll at least put up a good fight. I don't see why everyone says penn isn't that good, or they're surprised he's done what he has, the dude is insane his conditioning may not be as extreme as some of the other guys but he's obviously got skills. I can't wait to see what happens

I wasn't all that impressed with 100, just glad hindo knocked that fool out. Too bad Mir lost I thought it was rather lackluster maybe it was just all the hype...

I'm way more pumped for this than UFC 100. 4 of my favorite fighters are in co-main events. And BJ is from here so I'll be rooting for him.

The only thing that worries me is that even though he's supposedly got himself a good strength and conditioning coach finally, isn't it a bit late in his career to all of a sudden discover that strength and conditioning matters? I mean how many times is the UFC going to hype a "new and improved" BJ Penn in the "best shape of his life"? It's going to be hard to compete with fighters who have been doing that shit for the past 10 years of their life. Fortunately for him, size and strength has never been all that big a deal in the lightweight division. I mean the #2 guy is pretty skinny and the #1 guy is a slightly chubby Hawaiian.

I'd love to see the Griffin / Silva fight, but I'll be at a lake. I think Silva is gonna take it, he's ridiculous.

I'm hoping Penn will murder Florian ala Joe Daddy style. Kenny's talking way too much shiet his ass can't cash.

Going for Griffen for the other main event. Don't really like how Silva is showboating recently. He's good and all, but at least have some respect for your opponent and not toy with them...

Ha, they're still trying to milk the loser Griffin for his name recognition and 'toughness' to help sell another ppv. He's 4-3 in his last 7. Imo its a slight to some other great mhw's that should be fighting over him. That's why dana white and his UFC suck to be the only option...he calls the shots and if it doesn't work for you, you just have to bend over and take it.

Good to see Penn back. He's awesome but was way out of his [weight]class fighting GSP.

You just hate on Dana White in every thread. Why do you even comment in the UFC threads? Go watch some shitty 3rd rate league that will either go bankrupt or be bought out by UFC in a year.

Cant wait, tomorrow night should be a good show. I think Forrest will lose, but hopefully he puts up a good fight.

Considering the quality of his competition, 4-3 ain't bad. I mean look at his last 3 fights: Rampage, Shogun, Rashad. Besides, he's basically being fed to Silva since Silva's cleared out the middleweight division. It's not like he's in title contention.

I didn't realize you were this sensitive to criticism towards him. I recognize there are a few out there that don't think he's a blohard and don't mean to offend any of them when acknowledging in the course of discussion he's a d!ckhead with a stick up his @ss who can choke on it.

I'll promise to be more sensitive next time.

I have some issues with him as well, but I dont let it ruin the fights.

No doubt, its all about the odds. Can't say I understand the odds in those numbers tho...what's +300/-400 mean? 3 dollars earned to 1 bet if placing on griffin, vs. 1 to 4 in placed on silva? That would be a tough one, but prolly not worth taking silva imo.

Speaking of checkered records, Alessio Sakara's on the card. He may not be a big star, but he sure stars in a lot of other fighters' highlight reels.

If Forrest was fighting for the belt at 185, I'd agree with you. However, Silva's going up a weight class, so it wouldn't make AS much sense to put him against the #1 guy @ 205. Not that he'd fight Machida anyway.

Ask yourself this: were you dogging on the hype that the UFC gave the Silva/Irvin fight? They played up the "Sandman's" KO power pretty hard. Point being, if you move up a weight class, you don't fight the top guys right away.

And, no, the Penn/St. Pierre fight doesn't count because Penn fought at 170 for a long time.

Watching the weigh-ins it occurs to me how enormous (literally) BJ's head gets between fights. It's striking how different he looks at 155, compared to in-between fights.

I don't know what a literary leg kick is, but Silva's a Muay Thai expert, I think he might know how to check a kick.
