I can't imagine any electronic thing goes well with hot water and soap... but I could be wrong.

If you've ever opened up a keyboard you'd realize that it's not really complex enough for it to be an issue. The trick is to let it dry COMPLETELY before using it. If you're worried about the electronic portion, it usually only takes undoing a dozen screws before you completely seperate this piece.

It's not that difficult to open them up and wash them out.
