Built a computer for my father:

Generic 400W PS
Asus P4P800SE
512mb Crucial (2x256)
Vantec P4 cooler
Voodoo5 4500 pci
soundblaster live pci

Problem I am having is, I turn it on, get no beep codes, and no video. I can hear the hard drive plugging away, and the CDROM turning. All the fans are on which means the system is getting power. I'm leaning towards the processor being bad...as I have switched out vid cards three times....

ERG!

Could be a faulty M\B. I've had similar problems when I've blown components on motherboards before.

Sounds to me like it is a problem with a faulty motherboard posibly the AGP port is bad.

I concur on the mobo possibly being at fault. I had an Asus board exhibit this behaviour as well - one which Asus still has not contacted me re: RMA :|

PSA: Asus' RMA procedure is crap!

good luck with it...

The exact same thing is happening to me with my system. Though it had been working for sometime, but now I'm getting the same symptoms as you.

Personally I was thinking it was most likely to be the powersupply screwing up but now you've got me thinking it could be the motherboard.

Also my PC will post about 1/10 times. I may just rma the board anyway just to be sure.

Ok I've gone and found a few older vid cards that fit in the PCI slots, I still have the same problem. What I failed to mention before was that I had two other motherboards/systems show the same symptoms. I replaced the motherboards with new motherboards, replaced the cpus, replaced the sound and videocards....I am at my wits end with this, as I have been trying to build a system for my father and have had no luck the last three damned times!

UGH!

Hmmm....could it be a grounding problem with the tower you are using??? Have you tried the system outside the case?

Now your problem definitely does sound like a PowerSupply problem. I wouldnt use a generic powersupply in my system anyway, my advice is to order a OEM Sparkle power supply, which are both affordable and high quality. You dont need a crazy wattage to power your system, 350 would be plenty.

The problem isnt the power supply. The motherboard powers up, the cpu fan runs, the case fans all run, so when I look at the light on the mobo, its green, indicating to me that power wise everything is copasetic...

...still in pc hell

I am having the same issue with an older P3 machine. I tried a different powersupply and that didnt help so my guess is the motherboard but i will try taking out parts and seeing if it boots tonight.

Ok, so I have a video problem also. Same symptoms, no beeps, no video. Here's what I've done so far--

1. Made sure the monitor actually works
2. Reseated current video card
3. Tried a new video card
4. Tried a new hard drive
5. Everything powers up/spins ok including the current and all of the spare hard drives
6. Reseated and repositioned the RAM
7. Took out all non-essential components

Any suggestions?

Also, I turned my computer off, went on vacation for a week-- I turn it on and this is what I get. It was working fine before I left.

I had this some problem as well. Had an athlon xp system go bad on me.
Bought new processor, new powersupply, new motherboard.
Tested ram, vid card, and hard drive in another working system. Everything worked.

New stuff and same problem. I am so tired of it, I listed the vid card for sale on here. I just got real tired of trying to find out what the problem was. I tried everything outside of the case, with the motherboard sitting on motherboard box.

Same thing happened to me with an ASUS. The on-board video was broken I RMA'd, they returned the same mobo and said some pin was broken, then it stopped working after a little while again. Not to mention how long it took the people to let me RMA it. I ended up buying an ABIT and I have been happy ever since. It was almost the same model as wnied's. It was a P4P800MX
