Ugh, so I went to my PC to play some MW2 today and it was on, but the monitor had a no-signal. I restarted my PC and it just goes into a loop of restarts. It will take a while to post, like it is trying, then when it does it will pass the bios then usually restarts during the "press esc to boot...9 (countdown)"

It's pretty warm in my upstairs so I thought it was heat related, so I cleaned out all the fans, but that didnt fix it. So I started testing what I could.

Removed the Video Card (and used onboard) - didnt help
Removed a stick of ram - didnt help
Removed other stick of ram and placed 1st back in - didnt help
Hooked up different HDD and removed DVD Drive- didnt help (2nd HDD didnt have an OS and had the same problem)

So I am left with my:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane
ECS K8M890M-M Rev1.0A
Coolmaster 430W PSU

So, what do I do? Could my PSU be overheating? I left it all off for about 20min and tried it and it had the same problem... how do I test further without replacement parts?

Well, I replaced the power supply... still no luck. Looks like I am on the market for a new MB.

Turn off automatic restart with system failure and see if it gives you any messages. Sometime you can hit f8 and it will be in the menu. also you might check the paste on the CPU to make sure its not chalk and put on some new paste.

cleared the bios - didn't help

You also have to remove all power from the system. Unplug the power cord or switch the PSU off, push the power button to clear the residual charge and then pull the battery.

Not all motherboards are the same, though. Yours might have a jumper to reset the BIOS with.

So, even if i unhook the HDD, the reboot loop can still happen?

Absolutely not. A virus cannot harm any of your hardware in any way. The only thing that a virus can do is harm the data on your hard drive. If the reboots are happening without the hard drive, you might have an overheating problem. Go into the bios and post what temperatures your hardware is running at.

Also, just removing the battery most likely will not clear the bios. Most motherboards have a jumper that you have to move along with taking out the battery for a set amount of time (varying on the motherboard).
