U know i guess it was all just hype. I'm mad bored with all these games now. rayman is BORING.. wii sports,, plz,, red steel, ehhh,, i got zelda but it's just a crappy game since i'm no fanboy of it..

Remeber when the xbox/ps2 came out, and the 64 looks like farts.. THats the graphics i see on the wii.. not bashing the game's "Fun factor" even though i find them boring after my 6th hour of playing. remote is far from perfect. not a solid system of control. THis will never catch on as the norm. Accuracy is not there. Wii bowling is too easy to cheat and get 300

Complete opposite of what's been said here.

Bad idea to judge a console based on launch day. Give it a month or two to see if the games get boring or the system breaks.

Dude, the novelty is there I'll give them that, but it wares off easily.

And at this moment i'm thoroughly bored. perhaps i played too much right away. I'm going to go return this thing next weekend when i have time.

I heard playing with your Wii all day like that would make you go blind

OK sorry, that was shameful. I'll leave.

I've indicated already that I am no fanboy of nintendo or consoles in general. So thats mush on me. It could quite possible be that the games out are hardly innovative outside of the controller, which makes them a frivolous expense once the novelty of gyroscopic motion wares thin.

I can't believe nintendo actually thinks this will fly.

Well, since their million+ unit North American launch sold out, I guess it is flying pretty well.

Nintendo screwed the pooch by not supporting at least 720P. Yello/Red/White composite cables? I got those 20+ years ago with the NES. Oh, you cna buy component cables for extra and then you cna get 640x480, whoopdie doo, now Nintendo is only behind 2 generations.

Hate to break it to you but composite does infact support 640X480, the only difference between S-video/composite and component is progressive as composite is 480i and component is 480p though component can be viewed in 480i.

I knew this, hell your N64 supports 640x480 over rca.

My complaint is that they do not support a standard that has been around over at least half a decade.

So let's see...the two biggest complaints I'm seeing in this thread are that the graphics aren't as pretty as the competition, and that the system doesn't support a high enough resolution. Why am I not surprised?

I'm perfectly fine with 480p, and I already knew this system wasn't in it for the graphics war. It's going to be focusing on unique gameplay. I've had my system for almost two days now, and I love Wii sports. Getting a bunch of friends together to play some tennis or baseball is great fun, and I'm not tiring of it. I started up a bit of Zelda, and the controls have been working well for me so far. I like it.

Looking forward to Excite Truck, Red Steel, and Metal Slug Anthologies. Maybe another DBZ Budokai game if they can incorporate wiimote gameplay into it. For those of you who don't have the system, you have no room to talk until you've played it.

The resolution complaint is wack, but don't underestimate graphics. Graphics are a part of the gameplay rating.

However, I think that Nintendo has created a hype machine that should've sold for less than 200 bucks. The Wii is the same POS that the DS was.

A controller should be super comfortable and never get in the way of gaming. By throwing away decades of controller evolution, Nintendo has kicked itself in the ass. The controller itself is a limitation to the creation of games. You'll be playing similar games for the rest of the time you own a Wii, since the controller is too specific. Think of it, you bought it for specificness, not for it's generalness.

And that nunchuk (retarded name) looks uncomfortable to control.

I always thought that video-gaming on Consoles would die out fast when I saw Sega quitting after the Dreamcast.

As if from that very moment I felt some sort of an "end" where from that point everything that'd follow would be the same stuff presented over and over again, with only a few exceptions here and there every year or every two years. And, in my humble opinion that's what happened. When the PS2 was released I thought it was "decent" overall, but most of the games were just the same thing all over with different guns, different character models and just "different stuff", but just felt the same over and over again.

When the XBOX was released I told myself "ok from now on the Consoles won't ever be Consoles per se again, they will now contain PC-alike features, and the coming of Console on-line play will be forced upon followers for simple money benefits and no actual good intentions behind it nor regular support from the game developers". And well ... I think that's what pretty much happened. And now with the new generation I feel it's quite useless. It ain't what it used to be.

Heh maybe I'm just too old for Consoles ? I don't know. I'm 24 years-old, and I'd still start-up a game of Ocarina of Time or even Super Metroid, or I'd gladly try that Finishing move I always forgot in MK, or I'd surely try once more to save the Lost Land from the Primagen's plans of annihilation. However when I look at the games in general since the last generation it's just ... poor. I don't know how to say it properly, I can't seem to find the exact word. All I can safely say is that it just ain't as fun as it was before.

And, as far as the Wii is concerned, to stay more on-topic, I had the opportunity to try it a couple of times at my local Future Shop, and even though I think the Remote is technically speaking a brilliant idea, I just think that, over-time, gamers won't find it as practical, or as precise and comfortable as a good ol' Controller can be (with the SNES's simplistic but famous Controller which brought comfortability, and the N64's "M" Controller that brought innovation, accessibility and functionality, as well as the return of comfortability). I just think that the Wii's Remote wasn't "necessary", and that Nintendo went a little too far ahead by taking the risk to be a little too innovative. It was a gamble after all. I know some people out there that believe the Remote is the best thing since sliced bread, but I know others that like me think it's the complete opposite.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say that the Wii will suffer from a lack of a "large" library of games unique to it, because of the Remote's limits rather than its innovations. It will proportionally limit the number of games for the platform, and you know what ? I think that Nintendo's move to bring SNES and Genesis's best titles is kind of an assurance move, to keep people busy while developers burn their brain cells out to find out "what next game can we make that'd truly use the Remote as it was intended to" and while they take months and months just to adjust and calibrate everything to a functionality level for the game and the control responsiveness and precision of execution.

Good post, Zenoth. Like one of the only posts in this thread that contains the real deal and not some "assumption" bullsh!t that isn't backed up.

Oh, and to VIAN...

So you're saying that the normal controller is the same bullsh!t that we've seen for the past decade? The SIXAXIS' motion sensing capability is just flattery for Nintendo. Finally, a change in the way we play games...

There's a reason why two other consoles exist...

BTW, what else would you call the "nunchuk"? You attach it to the Wiimote and it looks like a nunchuck, sorta. Hmm...maybe "joystick on chunk of plastic" would do quite well!

the real measure of that will be in a few months.

the novelty and the hype have garnered much interest in the wii.... everyones excitied and those who can are buying them. same with the 360....they sold out, PS3 sold out despite its craptacular pricing and bundles.

but in a few months will the novelty still be there? will it still be an exciting alternative?

yeah theyre selling like hot cakes now, but will they still be selling copious amounts next year?

i personally think the wii-mote, while a new and novell take on the control of games (im gonna stick my neck out here and say its more evolutionary than revolutionary tho its pretty close to the latter) will lose its appeal.

yeah its great bouncing round your living room stabbing your mates with the remote for now, but i envisage in a few months time those people will be back to sitting back in a lay-z-boy pressing buttons with the addition of a the occasional wrist flick. PS3 man will be doing the same thing on his couch with the sixaxis and 360 man has been doing it since he bought the console

gamers are typically lazy, and if your not a lazy so and so then your either gonna have little time to play or your gonna want a nice relaxing sit down and a cuppa tea at some point.

infact after i've been training ( 2 hour pool session 5-6km worth of swimming) last thing i wanna do is play games at all...i wanna flake out infront of the tv watchin mythbusters or something.

different strokes for different folks at the end of the day

i like driving games, and games like GoW, i like lots of realism, blood, destruction i like cinematics, i like stuff to blow up, i like jaw dropping graphics and ear bashing sound...so for me its 360 or PS3 (since pS3 isnt out yet for us and its gonna be expensive i have a 360) and the steering wheel when its available.

if you like good old fashioned fun games, like DDR and stuff like you get in your typical arcade then the wii is your choice.

i know i wont buy a wii, i probably will never use one.... nintendo's games etc just dont appeal to me, i couldnt care less about mario, or zelda but equally nin fans probably dont care for PGR3 or GT4.

so im not gonna get a wii then complain about it, im not gonna complain about the wii from a 3rd person perspective either (bar the questions i posed in this post) i know im not interested in it (though i am interested in the tech) so im not gonna try shoot it down

Thats what happens when you have to be the first one on the block to run to the store to buy the next greatest hype!!

Next time you'll learn to wait.
