Ugh.. winamp skips like mad *solved*

I have an Athlon 1.0 Ghz with 246 RAM and a 30 GB Maxtor drive at ATA 100.

This happens when I run on a fresh boot too.

Any suggestions?


solved! for the most part. apparently, one of the windows xp driver updates screws something up...and there's discernible hops and skips when i drag my mouse over the desktop with no apps opened. i'm guessing it's the new matrox drivers... but i'm not certain. i'm just gonna download those criticial updates from now on.

what is your question?

1. give winamp's MP3 decoder higher priority. look though options.
2. Try a different MP3. The one you're listening to might be corrupt.
3. Disable ALL DSP plugins.
4. Reformat
5. Use a different OS

Try those, in that order.

i had the same problem. I downloaded and installed a newer version of winamp and everythings fine now. Except that it seems to cut off the first second of mp3s sometimes when it plays them.

Are you using a Soundblaster live? I have the same problem on Win2k.

I had this problem once, straight after a windows re-install. It turned out I hadn't installed my motherboard drivers (in my case, the VIA 4 in 1 things).

Winamp requires Magic v2.02 or higher, and therefore wont work on a Mundania based system

You guys reading "skips" as "skins" either A) need glasses or B) need a better monitor

And no, I don't have any suggestions. Did it do this in other OSes? When did the problem appear...

I have very similar specs, P3 933 and 256MB of RAM on XP, and MP3s in winamp skip. I have a Vortex 2 soundcard, and i assumed it was because of the fact that there were no Aureal made drivers for XP, but I guess not. I'm not sure, but things like defragging, using tweakxp to cut down the services and apps loaded at startup and the rest of the stuff in there has helped, but its still there. I love XP but this is really annoying.

I do wear glasses and my monitor is pretty good. The error comes from not taking the time to read each thread title slowly and carefully. It is not like I am in OT to actually learn something so the concetration level is not that high.
