5/16 - I order an LCD from Dell. They give me an estimated ship date of 5/31.
5/31 - No monitor, no email, no nothing
6/4 - Concerned, I call them. I manage, over the course of 20 painful minutes, to get my point across through a bizarre combination of voice, hand signals she couldn't see and hair pulling to "Jane", whom I'm still not convinced speaks any English at all. She promises me a phone call on the 6th with updated order status and a free upgrade to next-day shipping when (...if?) it finally does ship.
6/6 - No monitor, no email, no phone call, no nothing.
6/7 - Automated phone call (nothing's too cheap for Dell!). Recording tells me that my new ship date is 6/14. Of interest, the recording goes on to tell me that it would be unlawful to continue the order process without my confirmation, and to press 1 if I want to confirm the order, or 2 to cancel. Fed up, I press 2. Recording asks me if I'm sure. You bet your ass I'm sure.
6/7 - I order an LCD from a company that doesn't deepthroat elephants, Newegg
6/8 - Email from dell congratulating me, my order has been shipped!

Where do I go from here? I mean, aside from never dealing with Dell again, and telling all the people I know who ask me about computers to avoid them like the plague?

hopefully you have some type of cancel confirmation, or you may have to ship it back to dell. If you do have a cancel email, call you CC company to reverse charges.

That sucks man, Dell has really been good to me and never had a problem with them. even exchanged my monitor 3 times with them and they are super quick.

If you dont want it. you have 21 days to get your full refund.

I don't mind shipping it back if it's on their tab. I'm not paying to ship the monitor - that's expensive. I just had to RMA my 2 y/o LCD for a new backlight (under warranty thankfully) and shipping was 30 bucks.

Call them and tell them you want this by a specific date. Otherwise, tell them you will cancel your order and never purchase anything from them again. I did that 5 years ago and they took me seriously and shipped my computer asap. Gave me some freebies too.

Call them and get a manager and totally yell at them until they give you what you want and then some.

Or drive to dell headquarters and set the building on fire.

One will get you want you want

The other will feel oh...so good.

The FTC requires that if a company can't ship the product within 30 days of the estimated shipment date, that they automatically cancel the order unless you say otherwise.

Dell is a bunch of corn holes.

I had a charge back in December that I didn't recognize. I called four different Dell departments trying to find someone who could tell me what the charge was for. Just got transferred around to "John" or "Bill" whom I could barely understand each time.

So after about 2 weeks of getting no where, and not getting calls back like they said they would, I just disputed it with the credit card. Within 24 hours I had a copy of the receipt from Dell provided by my CC company.

Dickholes.

22" widescreen. Yeah, I know. I don't care, I'm not that picky and it's a good price point for the size & what I want to do.

Hrm... UPS tends to just drop off packages by my garage, I'm on a lot of land in an affluent area so they often let the rules slide a bit. Would this disqualify me somehow, counting as me accepting the shipment? From a legal standpoint.

yeah some times that happens, but I have never had problems with dell myself, they have always accommodated my problems and worked with me
