So last night, I was working on figuring out the cause of my system problems (long story, earlier post).

I hadnt hooked up my Floppy drive since my mainboard install, and i needed it, so i hooked it up, and I THOUGHT* i did it correctly, I dont know if I put the power on backwards (or even if thats POSSIBLE), but when I started it up, there was a loud popping noise (well, not loud, but a very audible sound enough to make me jump) my system then shut down (abuot 2 seconds passed from the time i started up until shut down), I Immediately pulled the plug from the back of the system and started to get the whiff of electrical burn.

I examined my system as much as i could with it in the case, and could SEE nothing wrong, nor could i tell where the smell came from.

I of course the proceeded to do my best impersonation of the French, and went to bed hoping the problem would go away come morning. This morning prior to leaving for work, I plugged it back in, I was getting power to the Mainboard (light on LAN and AGP insertion light were on), but when i turned on the power nothing happened, so i unplugged the power cable and again* started to get the whiff of something not good.

So, here I am at work, trying to figure out whats wrong.... where should i look?

PSU?
Mainboard?
Or?

I have another Board and PSU, so i think I am going swap out those first... any other ideas?

Well, what was the original PSU? Maybe you cooked it when you added in another device?

The PSU I am using is an Antec Tru Power 330w, the old one was a Sparkle 300W.

I had been using the ANTEC for about 3 months, with no problem, I didnt cook the PSU due to overloading it, I only had my DVD and HD and Vid card attached.

I had it before with a Sound Card, Tv Tuner, CDRW along with all those other things, and my PSU was always stable never havig any voltage drops of any signifigance.

I still get power out of the PSU to the mainboard, so I dont THINK the PSU is bad, but I am not sure...

Anyone ever have anything else like this happen to them? what was the cause?

sounds like something is shorting out the PS. make sure none of the wires are pinched or that the wires are exposed.

looks like my Antec True-Power blew up... I switched out BOTH my mainboard and CPU first, and it worked fine, I then swapped in my Antec PSU and no go...

I got my system up and running with the old ECS Mainboard last night, checked out all the other items that were in the case when my issue happened and they all work fine... tonight, I will swap back in my ASUS board, and HOPEFULLY, I can actually get my other issues straightened out..
