Uhggg....What is this sub-forum crap? (Video Cards and Graphics)

Can we please go back to the way it was before??? This is the very reason I almost never bother to visit the Video Card section of HardOCP forum. I like seeing news/discussion from both sides of the fence, this feels like we're being funneled into our own little worlds. I can see the displays being branched off but I don't like this AMD/nVidia stuff one bit.

Can you at least redirect traffic from the original thread to here? No one is going to see it in this area.

If it is necessary to have the ability to sort between AMD and Nvidia, add tags to each thread, which lets you sort by tag, similar to Tom's Hardware. You can see everyone at a glance, or narrow the list down to a category if you want.

old way is better... but ultimately the decision is not mine. Will it stop me from browsing? Probably not.

i see the benefit of sectioning off the 2 camps( since you specifically have to go to one maker subsection or the other to access the relevant thread, it means only people who are already part of one camp/brand are generally only encountering their own kind or the most fervent trolls. the rest of the unbaised public will mostly hangout in vcg/general discussion, effectively cutting off the targets from the viral marketing types and proselytizers.) so long as mods thoroughly keep threads sorted/moved into the respective subgroups.

but shouldnt general discussion be the top base thread and amd/nv/displays be sub grouped?

Not counting the posts directly relating to the change to the forum, there has been a grand total of two new posts in the past ~ hour and a half. It's already clear to see what effect it's having.

This segregation crap sucks. I like having one definitive place to read everything GPU related. I'm starting to dislike this change.

hate the change. its why i don't read Hardocp forums. Want to talk and read about all GPU's not just one vendor at a time. this just complicates browsing.

displays being branched off makes sense but not GPUs.....whats next intel/amd CPU subforum?

Yeah, I don't like it either. I don't frequent VC&G - I check it once or twice a week, at most - but this is even less reason for me to visit it now.

There isn't a reason to section off AMD and Nvidia. If people can't manage to be civil, ban them. Just imagine how crappy the experience would be if the same logic applied to Mobile Devices & Gadgets (or P&N, for that matter)... yes, there's a separate Apple forum (and I'm not really a fan of that, either) but people manage to keep things civil about Android, Windows Phone, and iOS in there most of the time. Individual offenders should just be warned, vacationed, and banned if they can't manage to discuss things in a productive or at least civil manner.

If it's about organizing information along the two approaches, you actually just end up making it harder for manufacturer-agnostic members to compare information. No one likes digging down into subforums, either.

And please, please declare a moratorium on new forums and subforums. There's already decreased activity in most of the forums compared to a few years ago. It's annoying to browse a dozen forums I'm interested in, and on top of that you have the terrible mobile implementation that makes it harder to browse the forums. If it's less forum participation you are going for, this is precisely the way to achieve it.

i don't "hate the change", but i'd rather have one forum for both brands.

What used to be the Video Cards and Graphics forum is still in place -- it's called "Graphics Cards -- General Discussion" now. If that's the forum you're looking for, participate there.

+1.

I don't understand why they made this change.

It makes it harder to follow the current topics because now they are split from 1 forum to 4 forums.

Maybe if VC & G was really high volume and same day responses spilled over on the second page I could more easily understand the need for separate sections.

But that was not the case. Instead the original VC& G was low enough volume that responses to threads from at least 2 days previous were still on page 1.

P.S. Maybe a partial analogy was the loss of efficiency we had when hot deals and free stuff were separate forums. Merged together our efficient to view current content increased.

Isn't it obvious? It's an attempt to ease moderation requirements.

Sub-forums reduce the concentration of threads per forum. This in turn reduces general interest and the desire for people to post.

To put it bluntly, they're trying to cut video traffic down, and you can already see the effect.

AMD's new GPU releases probably accelerated the rollout as I can't believe the timing was a coincidence.

I also dislike the split, there's a more general forum as well which is fine on paper, but we all know mods are going to be filtering Nvidia and AMD stuff into their sub-forums and now I just have to check 3 sub forums for what is essentially the same kind of discussion, as well as all the possible drama over classification of threads and having them moved etc.

I don't understand what the purpose of the split was...it does not but inconvenience forum users.

Displays being separated out is a good move because there was previously no where else really good to discuss them and it's something that has a lot of useful discussion points.

My suggestion: Revert the GPU subforums to what it was before and add displays as its own main forum under Hardware and Technology, preferably just underneath the GPU forum

The split was needed: way to much circle-jerk, conspiracy theories and speculation that was constipating an otherwise excellent resource for news and advice.

This will greatly reduce the amount of flame wars. Been trying to get them to do this for years. The sub forums are a refuge for those who wish to talk about Nvidia, or AMD without the thread being descended upon by anyone. At least without being instantly infracted. Much needed change.

We need an Intel subforum too.

This is stupid. It's annoying to browse 3 different subforums to get up to date on the latest from nvidia and amd. This is going to kill the traffic to an already dying forum.

I can see branching Displays into its own separate subforum, but subdividing graphics cards into AMD/nVidia/Both is just plain retarded.

The separate forums suck. It was one of the reasons I much preferred AT forums over hardforum

Then blame the idiots that would not be civil and complained when they were attacked.

Let the mods try this way for a while to see what the results will be.

Change is many times resented because it takes one out of the comfort zone.

It might do that, it's also going to reduce overall traffic and make it harder for people to get general info. Sure there may be a general forum, but when it only contains 1/3rd of the information it's not so useful. It's a shame to make the forum less useful so the mods have an easier time moderating.
