Not really. Unless you have enough drives to saturate the standard 32bit bus, it won't make any difference. In order to do that, you will need at least 3 current generation drives, and 4 or more of anything older. And even with those numbers of drives, that only comes into play when all the of the drives are running full bore from the outside of the platters. Not a real common occurence.

I haven't tweaked anything on it yet, just standard XP Pro install. Seti is crunching 2 units at once and it looks like it is finishing each in about 4:20.

Well that's what happens when you need something to hold you over for the next 3 months until Northwood.

We're enthuasists here, most of us go for what's the best, and I'd buy a VIA processor with a VIA southbridge if it meant I would have the top of the line for a long time (which obviously isn't happening).

No the difference between MP and XP is that XP uses an organic package in stead of a ceramic. It will fine in smp!

How many apps can you think of that use SSE2? None that I use. In fact I think most of them are not even optimized for SSE yet.

Actually SSE instructions are implemented in quite a few programs now. Especially high-end audio/video type stuff. SSE2, on the other hand, isn't gaining much industry support. Some programs use it, but very few. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that SSE2 doesn't offer the same performance gains as SSE did.
