Wow, thats a lot of stuff.. I just buy things as I need them. It'd be a pain to try and take that all in one trip (for me anyways, I had to drive 6 hours).

Looks good. Couple things to add -

- $2 pair of flip flop sandals to wear into the showers. You REALLY don't want your feet touching the shower floors :Q
- Ziplock baggies
- A shower tote to carry your shampoo, soap, razor, washcloth, toothbrush, ect back and forth between your room and the showers

Roll of carpet
WTF?

Cups
Plates
Silverware
Salt shaker
Dish Soap

You have a kitchen in your room? If not, don't bring any of that crap.

2 or more notebooks
5+ folders
Spare lined paper
Graphing paper
Pens
Pencils
Calculator
Assignment notebook
Wooden ruler

They have a bookstore on campus, you don't need to bring paper.

Iron w/ auto shut off - You wear pressed suits to class? I never once saw anyone iron anything in a dorm room.
Cleaning Supplies - um, ok, like what? Water and a paper towel is all you'll need, and those are free in the bathroom.
Waste Basket - typically supplied with the room
Flashlight - Maglight - in case the power goes out?
Calendar - if you need it for something.
Message Board - you only have 1 roommate.
Extension Cords (12 or 14 gauge wire) - For what? You don't need to plug in hedge trimmers and carry them to the curb
Fan - will you need it?
Tape Tacks for posters, etc Stapler Book of Stamps Envelopes - More stuff to get at the bookstore
Extra Hangers - you going to be buying a lot of new clothes?
Dust Rag - free paper towels in bathroom
Jumper Cables - just leave them in your car.

You have a lot of extra sh!t you don't need on that list. I didn't even go through the whole list.

condoms?.. j/k you can get those for free

anyways... you don't need to be totally prepared.. just be sure to introduce yourself to your neighbors and try to eat out the first night with your floormates

With as much crap as you have listed, you will be unable to physically move around in the room.

Rolls of carpet are really nice for many dorm rooms. When it gets into the winter months the concrete or tile floors in many dorms can get frigid. The carpet helps keep your feet warm, and it also softens the fall if you roll out of your bunk drunk in the night.

A fan is necessary if the dorm room has no A/C. Also, my bathrooms didn't have paper towerls or soap so you had to bring your own nor did the rooms have waste baskets.

A fan should be number one on your list. Most schools leave the heat on all year, don't be surpised to see fans in windows in December. Message boards are important too, for all your friends to leave messages when are aren't around. You need power strips, don't bring extension cords. Get a lock for that LCD, those things are easy to steal. Otherwise you're set, if you need anything else just bum if off someone else at school.

Carpet is key too... in a nutshell don't listen to Imported.

I'd also throw in a couple of those plug in air fresheners. Unless you enjoy the sweet, succulent aroma of dirty clothes, foul beer, and BO.

Nail clippers. You'd be surprised how frustrating it is not to have nail clippers.... unless you're one of those people who bite their nails.

umbrella

i hope you talked to your roomate because if he brings the same stuff you do then you're screwed

anyway that is way too much stuff like notfred said dont bring any silverware / dishes unless you have your own kitchen

just steal it from the dining hall and bring it back at the end of the year if your so inclined

and what do you mean by decorations? the only decorations you might need are posters

space is valuable necessity in a dorm and i hope you scoped out the kind of room you are gonna be living in

WHat size are these dorm rooms? Also, is it possible for people to get their own rooms to themselves? I mean, if one guy has to study and the other is just resting with some music on in teh same room, it can get annoying... if the music loud that is

My room is 10.5 x 15'. Here is a room layout

Shower shoes are a definate, just have to find where they are at. Have a shower tote.

Roomate (LyNx01) will be using the iron. Have markers.

Roll of carpet because our floors are just tile.

Extension cord for the refrigerator. Jumper cables are already in the car.

No paper towels in the RR so windex and paper towels are required to clean.

Surge protectors are coming.

Decorations are indeed posters of chicks from hot deals.

How the heck do you lock up an lcd? My roomate and me both have 18" dells.

Awesome, I'm gonna print this out and save myself the trouble of writing it It's almost exactly everything I need to bring as well, except for the dishes, I won't need those. And as the others said, add the flip flops and nail clippers.

Woohoooo!

<---- can't wait to move out!

Bring a trash can anyway. Even if it's not supplied, it's nice having two.

DO NOT buy supplies at the bookstore on campus. Stuff was WAY overpriced at ours. You can save money by hitting up Staples.

Iron is nice, but I work in an office and never iron anything. Straight from the drier onto a hanger and most stuff is ok. I had to borrow an iron ONCE in my two years in the dorms, and that was just because I forgot a dress shirt and had to buy one new.

Plastic silverware/paper plates are good for dishes, otherwise don't bother. Our floor had a sink and a kitchen area, but no one ever brough dish soap for it.

The walls are probably block, which won't make for hanging stuff up very well. I had to keep retaping posters throughout the year.

Do yourself a favor and don't sell extra network cards/cable. You'll get labled "the computer guy" and EVERYONE will come to you needing crap fixed throughout the year. I fixed ONE person's PC once (a friend) and pretty soon half my floor needed stuff fixed.

You probably won't need the battery backup stuff, we never lost power at my dorm. A 9V for your alarm clock just in case isn't a bad idea.

Your list is pretty good, I'm impressed. You should be fine for room, with the exception of the iron, that's pretty much what I brought. I lived close enough to home (1 hr) that I left most of my DVD collection and games at home, picking them up whenever I'd go home to get laundry done or eat

Don't bring an iron - in fact, I think they're outlawed in UM dorms due to the ginormous fire hazard they pose.

Definitely bring shower sandals, and take ONLY what you ABSOLUTELY need to live with. You will NOT have room for anything else besides computer, school supplies, TV, and clothes. Leave EVERYTHING else at home. TRUST ME!

Do you have an ironing board? I know others said you aren't going to be ironing, but if you are, you'll want a board.
