Not to thread crap or anything, but I have yet to see an HP laptop that doesn't overheat itself just sitting on a table playing an HD movie. My friend has an ASUS that he can pretty much wrap in a blanket while playing HD movies and it has never overheated. Not saying that this HP overheats, but in my experience I would stay far far away.

Discuss the deal or don't threadcrap. If you have experience with this laptop and there are issues with it fine.

Other HP laptops are not relevant to this discussion unless you have links that are relavent to this "overheating" you mention.

right, that is how much I think these two are worth together. Without any coupons mimic or what not. I can get Dell XPS with similar configuration for $1050.

Well, we sure are lucky to hear your one anecdotal experience. We should all put a LOT of weight in this baseless, fact-less jumble of 1's and 0's.

OP - a link to the HP site might be helpful.

As far as value, this isn't bad. 17" laptops typically have a premium over 15" systems. A 15" system loaded with things like 1080p screen and Blu-ray would typically run $1K or a bit more, so getting a 17" system with an Xbox 360 isn't a bad deal. Consider thought that the street value of a 360 4GB is probably $150 or less.

If you've been wanting an xbox 360, this is a good option. If not, it's a fair deal.

Not to comment on your comment or anything, but well done for not really trying.

Right...

For $1036 you can get a Sager NP6165 with a Core i7-3610QM, 8GB DDR3-1600, GeForce GT 650M, 15.6" 1920x1080 screen, 750GB 7200RPM HDD (not the 1TB 5400RPM crap HP includes), and Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It also has an integrated fingerprint reader for higher security. You can add a Blu-Ray reader for $80 additional, but I didn't factor it in because Blu-Ray is irrelevant for most enthusiasts.

It's better built than the HP in the OP, and Sager doesn't have HP's reputation of making unreliable consumer systems.

What about COURTESY?

No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread.

Wow you found a 15in with no bluray,no ssd and the 1gb gpu.

I can downgrade the HP to the 750gb and save 100 and save 150 on your gpu.

You also have no Intel Bluetooth and no back lit keyboard!

and no Xbox!!!

Stop it.

You're now threadcrapping in your own thread

Wait I get an infraction for someone that craps on my deal that I'm trying to defend?

For the record I just built a 17in as lol wut posted with as close to the specs as my deal and it came out to 1475 and it didn't have the 2gb gpu and only a 8gb ssd vs the 32gb.

No you got a warning as did three others in that thread.

You don't "defend" your thread. If you have a problem with it, you use the little red triangle to report the post to the mods.

Now, you again are threadcrapping in your own thread by not keeping to the topic.

This is your last warning. Next one will actually be an infraction.

Guys, this is a seriously good deal. The 32gb ssd for cache + 1tb storage is awesome for non DIY-types, the IVB cpu is great, blu ray, etc etc. It's hard to poke holes in this other than the slightly overpriced xbox 360.

FWIW, my wife has been using a dv7tqe with an SB cpu for 6 months, and she absolutely loves it. No overheating issues, no nothing, just extremely fast/stable computing. That laptop is in my sig. This computer is better all-around the computer that I bought for my wife. It has a better cpu, better gpu, better storage, better screen, and I paid around $1050 for my wife's rig on a BF deal that I found on slickdeals. Oh, and I did spring for $155 for a 160gb 320 series and $35 for the cables/drive caddie that I installed in the 2nd hdd bay.

Dell doesn't charge tax where you live?
It's an extra $102 for me.

Update:
Ordered anyway.
For those who might know - is HP like Dell where the ship date usually ends up being way before the estimated date?

Isn't the Xbox 360 promotion only for students? Seeing as the OP screenshot is from Academia.

The deal is great nonetheless for those looking to get a power laptop.

For what it's worth, you can get the exact same build without the Xbox for $1,189 (before tax), using code MEMSALE:

And that doesn't require logging in as a student.

EDIT: CHECK THAT! Get another $50 using code NBY4296 instead. That brings the OP's system build down to $1,139 before tax.

Yes, it's for students.
The qualifications for "students" are quite broad however. I was able to order one just by having a child about to enter kindergarten. I used the option "parent of a child enrolled in K-12". I'm sure I could have used "former student/alumni" as well.

That is a good deal if you don't want/need/can't flip the X360. I just bought a Star Wars Edition X360 last month, so this one will be for the bedroom.

XBox is arriving today.
As far as the student status they did put my order on hold until they contacted me and asked a few questions. No big deal.

If the moderator is going to post in half of the comments for this deal perhaps the whole thread should just be deleted.

Replace the rotational hard drive in these machines with an SSD, and not only does it get much faster, but far cooler as well. My wife's netbook never gets past warm, no matter what the task.

They were for me. I ordered my wife's dv7t on BF 2011. It had an estimated ship date of 12/6, but I got it on 12/2 or 12/3.

Way to contribute to the conversation.

Nah, the mods here are just fairly strict about the TOS. But that's what makes this forum awesome.

Solid deal OP, good post.
