I believe the constitution only applies to US soil(i.e. why they put Guantanamo Bay in Cuba) SO have a ship and registered by Mexico, and float it into international waters. Feel free to beat the hell out of the prisioners.

10 million people... in the middle of nowhere. And who is going to cook their food? Bring them food? At a rate of 1 meal per second, that's 117 days just to provide breakfast. So, obviously, you're going to need a LOT of employees. And, you're probably going to want pretty good employees - look at the prisoners that broke out of NY's highest security prison as a result of aid from a couple of prison employees. Do you know somewhere we can find 100,000 people who want to be prison employees, and want to live in an area with no cell service? And, quite frankly, can you call 100,000 employees living in an area the "middle of nowhere?" And, a 100 prisoners to 1 employee ratio is laughably low. And, are you going to deny those 100,000 people the right to have a family? What kind of infrastructure are you going to have available for those 100,000 employees and their families? Schools? Restaurants (and their employees)? Etc. You've got a medium sized US city at the very least, just for the logistics involved in staffing your prison.

or we could start being the land of the free again and stop imprisoning more people than any other country in the world. Legalizing drugs would be a good start.

I always thought that it would be a good idea to put a giant electronics manufacturing plant in one of these Supermax prisons. Pay the prisoners about a dollar an hour to make things like iPhones and XBox 360's (since the minimum wage laws don't apply in prisons), and you just found a way to undercut the labor costs in China and lower shipping costs.

Suck it FoxConn... JailCon is going to steal back your business!

This is a horrifying idea.
Hey now, holding the #1 position for highest incarceration rate in the world takes some work and dedication.

Besides, think of all the great reality shows we could get out of this kind of prison.

"Demand for the iPhone 8 is expected to be very high. We're going to need more 'workers' at JailCon. Make it happen, people."

There aren't 10 million people in prison in the entire world.
Based on my Wikipedia credentials....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_incarceration_rate

In October 2013, the incarceration rate of the United States of America was the highest in the world, at 716 per 100,000 of the national population. While the United States represents about 4.4 percent of the world's population, it houses around 22 percent of the world's prisoners.
Let's go with 315 million people for 2013, that'd be 2,255,400 in prison in the US.
/0.22 = 10,251,818 people in prison worldwide.

So if that's accurate, I sure hope that the 10 millionth get some kind of party.

This is similar to a plan I devised for illegals. Find odd jobs for them to do so they can make some money, and they are granted amnesty after after a certain amount of time (5 years). All of the prisons would be run by robots to reduce cost and not develop impartial treatment (like in the NY case with that CO). The prisoner would not have to work if they don't want to so it's not considered slave labor. The private prison makes money off of the contracts from companies, the companies don't have to pay as much to make the products, and the illegals can have some money to start their new life as a citizen when they serve their time for coming here illegally. It also avoids the sticky and impossible-because-of-cost issue of deportation.

It would actually be a job loss, as lot of prisons would close.

Though prisons are kind of a morbid thing to consider a job creator in first place. We need less prisons, less prisoners and better crime prevention programs. Send the actual violent people to jail but stop sending people for stupid petty stuff like smoking weed or hacking. Those type of crimes should have to pay fines and move on, go through forced counseling/education or other programs. Not be confined to a place where they'll be beat up and raped and stuff, over something non violent.

I lol'd @ jailcon.

That's right. Our prisoners are treated better than your workers. #murika

It was interesting that when I was issued my clothing items in basic, the majority were manufactured by "federal prison industries."

Know what I call 10m prisoners in one place? An army. I'd be *happy* to run a facility like that.
