UltraSharp 2005FPW or ViewSonic VP912B

I cannot decide between these monitors. The main reason for buying one is for playing games. Everything else would be ok with any monitor.. But I notice ghosting pretty easily and was wanting the best monitor with no ghosting.

From just the specs the 2005FPW is bigger, higher resolution, wide screen, cost $50 more (which isnt a big deal cause i only buy monitors every 4 years or so )

But my main concern is ghosting and image quality and also how well they produce blacks (i believe i heard LCDs have a problem producing black?)

Any opinions would be great. Will be buying soon

I'm trying to make the same decision although the current price differential is more significant. Last I saw Newegg was selling the 912B for ~$570 while the 2005FPW is $750. Have you found the 2005FPW for cheaper?

I think overall the Viewsonic is a higher quality monitor (not that the Dell is a slouch). I've had a Viewsonic CRT for the past 5 years and its been great but it's starting to show its age. The advantage of widescreen is very tempting. I've had a widescreen TV for the past 2 years and I can't even look at a regular screen anymore.

You can get the 2005fpw for around $550 when it goes on sale at Dell....

I have one, and I love it...I don't do much gaming though, so I'm not sure about ghosting, but it has a good response time.

A few people have had problems with backlight issues from what I recall, but they just send them back and they get replaced....I love Dell Monitors (rebadged Samsungs?)...I had a 1900fp from 3 years ago, and just recently upgraded to the 2005fpw.

what kind of blacklight issues?? I heard the dell really has more like a 16MS response time from black to white. 12MS grey to grey or something? This true? What does the viewsonic have?

The 2005fpw and 2001fpw can both be had for 500-550 on ebay.

Heck YEAH! WoW and even HL2 have widescreen resolution modes.

Aww, you poopheads are kinda making me jealous. I have a 1704FPT 17", but at least the response time rocks.

It's almost kinda cheating, that is, playing a game in widescreen. It's like having a built-in Matrox Parhelia card into your monitor! It's ludacrous that the game actually displays MORE instead of just stretching, to keep the viewing abilities the same for everyone in the game.

Same here, I had a estimated ship date of Feb 10th, yet today it is "in transit" Wohooo!!! 1600x1200 CRT + 1680x1050 LCD here I come!!!

my vote goes to dell on this one solely coz of widescreen aspect ratio.

seems like pretty even on "typical" res time of 16ms b2w, 12ms g2g.

My poor vision means I pay closer attention to detail than most people. And yes, it is all opinion, some people won't care about the poor reproduction of blacks, and some people will, like myself.
