"There are no excuses for murders"
Actually, there are excuses for murders.
I think this is one of those discussions like racism where people don't want to get rational thinking and science involved because they are afraid that it will be misused.
How about the old cliche of killing your father in law who beat on you and your mother every night? What's an excuse for murder?

not your father or step-father, but your father in law? damn, what a prick!
thats what you get for marrying your sister!

LOL. You guys know what I meant.not your father or step-father, but your father in law? damn, what a prick!
I knew you'd go down that road. I'm not arguing court cases, counselor. The word "excuse" isn't even a legal term. That's not an excuse. You still go to jail.

This is why I don't argue on the internet. It becomes an issue of semantics. I never said it absolves the person of guilt. You just said yourself that there are multiple definitions of the word yet your first response was not to seek clarification but to instead attack it and say it was wrong.Actually it is, but we don't have to go down that road.
Per your example, killing the father in law (or step-father or baby-daddy or whatever) because he beats you and mommy up is you coming up with excuses (reasons) for killing him, it does not excuse (pardon) it. Don't confuse the multiple meanings of the word.
There's no excuse for murder just as there is no excuse for rape. She was dressed slutty, she acted like she wanted it, she was flirting, I thought she wanted it, she has a reputation for promiscuity...these are excuses, they do not provide an excuse. Simply put, it's never the woman's fault.
