I have to agree with the others, it just sounds like you aren't very good right now. The game has been out quite a while so you are way behind the learning curve. At this point it might have been better to simply wait on UT3 and get in on the ground floor.

i don't though. I do decent, it's just complete garbage. When I hit you with 3 rockets in the face though you should die. I get winged by a link pulse and die
Gee thats funny, cuz I can hit you in the head with one rocket and I know you'll die.
I also know you cant get killed from one Link pulse.
Either the server you played on had some weird weapon mod running (which is quite common) or you actually suck and are completely full of crap (which is also quite common).

I'd say play a few days of Single Player while slowly moving up the Bot Difficulty. PRACTICE! Practice like a mofo. Thats the only way to get good and be competitive.
Also, play with each of the mutators and get used to changing the rules. It can throw you off and teach you to be versatile.

lol, sounds like you've been on a zark server and are just using the wrong weapon. I've played on zark servers and its always funny when someone joins who doesn't know and then uses standard weapons. Inevetitably you always hear the "This server sucks" just before they leave.

One of the few FPS games that I leave installed on my system no matter what.

Your opinion has been noted and filed accordingly.

They toned down most of the weapons and made them underpowered (pretty much everything but the minigun, which is now too powerful), and the whole game in general feels slow paced compared to UT. It's a real pity, as the game is packed with content and the level design is often brilliant.

interesting.. i thought UT2k4 was too fast compared to the original UT.

I didn't play GOTY in the day, but it really feels slow to me compared to 2k4 now.

i started playing CS:S and i totally suck at it. all these guys go around getting headshots all the time or kill me in like 3 hits or less but i can unload a full clip into them at point blank and they don't die.

same thing happens with CoD2. i can be point blank next to a guy and unload into him and not have a single bullet hit him but he can turn around and fire a small burst and kill me.

YES! I noticed that all the weapons seemed underpowered, but the minigun shreds people.

Mini isn't too powerful, you just need to know how to deal with it. That's where the advanced movement system comes into play. You need to be dodging and getting out of the way of the mini. 2k4 is like an elegant ballet. Control of your player is just as, if not more important than control of your weapon. If you play this game like just about any other fps out there you're going to lose hard.

If you don't want to put that kind of time in to learn the game, then I'd suggest ONS. Fragging isn't as important in that mode, and having the vehicles to get you around the map alleviates the need to learn movement to some extent. You'll still need to learn the particulars of that mode though. That'll take some time, and you have to remember that you're playing against people that have been playing since release.

That's cause you didn't. The first couple shots may have hit them, but the rest you wasted on air. Short bursts or constantly adjusting(radically) your aim if spamming makes all the difference.

LOL!

UT2k4 is a great game.

I have played since it came out, & i still "suck", at least compared to good players.

It takes a lot of time to get good.

My Xfire = n7dgs

Add me & i can give you a tip or two.

point blank, meaning the barrel of my gun is pressed up against their torso. how do you miss like that???

The characters move much faster, but the weapons are all extremely weak compared to UT. I just couldn't really get into it. The thing that drew me to the original UT was the raw destructive power of the weapons. And while you moved slower, that amplified the need to use the translocator to get around quickly.

Admittedly, I didn't play UT2k4 long...I bought the game for some mods and haven't loaded the original game since.

CS has a unintuitive recoil system. Try aiming at their feet next time and you'll be surprised. The "gun" kicks up, but your crosshairs don't...which is totally confusing. Once you get over the fact that shooting at people's feet makes no sense whatsoever, you'll find you do better going full auto in close quarters situations.

And the link gun, right?

You just need to practice more, and maybe start off with the easier servers. The players in your typical deathmatch/CTF seem to be much more serious than those in the assault servers.

just have to learn cs quirks, there are guides out there. basically it punishes you if you go run around guns blazing. real world you cannot always stand still crouch and fire 1-3 shots at neck/upper chest area to recoil up to hit head, but optimally thats what you do. the new dm servers in cs:s let you test out all the weaps and do things without worrying about waiting for respawn.

ut2004 does feel weird though. the anti lag system or whatever is inferior.i mostly liked the invasion maps

still gotta try this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenArena
