It hasn't needed a crack for ages. They disabled the requirement for the play disc to be in the drive.

From what it sounds like, your opponents had full armor and full health... you didn't. Even 3 rocket blasts probably wouldn't kill someone with maxed out health and armor. Also, they could've used the booster adrenaline code in the middle of the fight to raise their stats back up.

ah welll reinstalling ut2004
what a pain, 5 cds + playdisc
hope theres a no cd crack. and the patch..so many sites require registration or subscribing to download...@#% annoying stuff to go through to play an old game

yeah, i did find 2 DM marked servers. that was much more fun than the standard servers.
one server had a low ping and ended up crashing during the middle of play and the other had a high ping.

one thing that pissed me off was no spawn protection. i'd spawn in front of an enemy and before i could press 2 to reselect my previous load-out, i'd be dead. even in the beginning, before i could select my weapons, i died like 10 times.

I also understand that people get lucky shots in FPS games but the amount of lucky shots against me were insane. guys jumping around corners and getting headshots all the time.

i still don't get the weapons.

i think there is spawn protection, for the first couple seconds you take no damage. but yes, if you choose not to hit 2 and use previous weapons when not in a safe spawn you will be vulnerable.

as for headshots, people aim for the head in cs. its the way to win a fight.

I tried it a year ago and didn't like it either. All the frenetic movement was just a little too chaotic. Did you guys hear yourself.....telling him to aim for the floor....yeah, loads of fun shooting at the ground around each other. Plus I prefer conquest to onslaught. I don't know how many times with my team losing in BF1942 or BF2 I would maneuver myself behind enemy lines and capture a base and get our momentum back. With onslaught it's pretty much a steady steamrolling because they know where you're gonna be and have everything there.

Only online game I play is CS:S.

That said, I'll try UT3 whennit comes out, but I'm expecting it to be worse.

That only applies to rockets, and to a lesser extent flak grenades. Everything else you need to hit right on. There's no recoil, or any other artificial physics to compensate for. Assault rifle, and primary mini have bullet spread, otherwise you'll hit what your xhair is on.

Who has time to line up a shot? With all the vehicles and players concentrated in one place it's like a giant rainbow-colored meatgrinder.

Not a big fan either. I much prefer the pace and style of CS as I find the pace of UT just a little too frenetic.

Not to say I did not have any fun moments, but they were few and far between.

I do still want to try UT3 when it comes out though.

So basically in summary, most of you like an easier more n00b-friendly game that doesn't take forever to get good at

I prefer a challenge, & there are few games that will provide more of one than UT2k4.

Maybe Tribes?

Overall though, you cannot expect to be anywhere remotely close to a good Ut2k4 player w/o playing a few month at minimum.

The game takes skill & experience to get good at, something you have to spend time doing

well which is easier to hit - the floor, or a moving target? splash damage FTMFW

UT2k4 is not supposed to be realistic.. it's supposed to be a fragfest.

I never thought UT2004 was that great to be honest. The weapons all seem weak and underpowered.

I vastly prefer Quake 3.

Your opinion has been noted and filed accordingly.

Yep great game,I like going in the large 32 player servers for "Onslaught",great fun.

where are tehse servers? the most I've seen is 24 in an onslaught game. Honestly I don't even give a ****** if I die in those big onslaught ones...I just keep respawning and trying to murder as many people as possible before a raptor takes my head off

im pretty sure ive been in 32+ player servers as well, 48 player maybe even 64. its been a while though, but i definately remember playing in a game with more than 32 people. it was insane. i think my eye's bled from the multitude of lasers, rockets, bullets, plasma, explosions and body parts all going on at once, its hysterical.

i used to love that monster one, i dunno if it was a mod, but you're all on the same team and you just fight wave after wave of monsters, they get bigger and more power ful with every wave and everyone respawns before the new wave arrives....that was fun and incredibly hard at the higher levels.

I love UT and UT2k4, and I really hate CS since it seems more like luck whether you actually hit anyone or not.

Personally-
UT2k4 weapons + UT2k4 map design + UT Single-dodge = win.

This thread inspired me to reinstall Ut2004...I had forgotten how damn good that game is. You really have to have some major game to compete on public servers now though.

Seriously though, the one thing I dont understand is the hatred for UT03 and the love for UT04. They play exactly the same aside from the different modes and maps. Although I prefer the slower pace and stronger weapons of the original UT (hope they bring that back for 07), I thought UT03 was a fine game as well.

LOL, FAR more people complain about CS:S being too unfriendly to newbs, so, no that's not what is being said here.

UT2K4 is a cartoonish arcade style game.....the kind your kid sister can hop on and ended up fragging some people just by jumping and spamming rockets wildly. I have no doubt people can reach high levels of mastery within the game.........then again, people can reach high levels of mastery in Frogger too......that doesn't make it a complex game.

Yea, I've played people's sister that just jumped on for some fragging. It usually results in a godlike victory for me

yup just like quake 3, shooting rockets at feet has been standard. only annoying thing is how slow the ut rockets are, i like the q3 rockets better
