Update: Here is a web site devoted to Umax scanners. Apparently, the 2000P, 2000U, 2100U, and 2200SU all use the same scanning engine. I will assume that the 2010U likewise has the same engine. Although Insight does not mention it, a 90-day warranty leads be to believe that this is a refurbished unit. If anybody speaks to an Insight CSR, please let everybody know for sure.

I believe this is an email special sent out to insight's mailing list subscribers. Hence, this is a loss leader to get new customers.

Don't know why anybody would have trouble with finding the rebate as the rebate is clearly listed on the original link.

I have this scanner (paid about $30 for it after rebates), and it's pretty great for the price. I don't know what these guys are charging for shipping, but this sounds like a great deal. No, it's not as good as a $100 HP, but for $10 and USB, you can't go that wrong.

Not bad at all. They are claiming in their FAQ that Win2k drivers are even in the works, although they are not available yet (no release date specified).

I'm debating whether to jump in on the deal. UPS Ground shipping is a touch over $7.

Total cost is under a 20-buck note.

This is a good deal, but Insight is giving me some trouble. You want to talk about dumb. Here is what happened. The last time I ordered from Insight was probably two years ago. This is ancient by Internet standards. It is eons ago. God know what e-mail and or password I used at the time. When I tried to create an account and purchase this scanner, Insight stopped everything in mid-stream and said I had a duplicate account and needed to e-mail them. So here I sit, credit card in hand wanting to buy something from this company, and they are forcing me to wait for e-mail. This would not bother me so much if I ordered something a few months ago. But two years! Give me a break. This is a very stupid system. I can't believe Insight has been around all these years.

1. You can't combine the rebates. You need a UPC for both.

2. Yes, warranty is 90 days, but at this price it's cheaper to buy a new one than it is to ship it away for warranty repairs anyway.

3. This is a decent USB scanner for $15 people! Buy it already!

Okay, okay...I finally broke down and did order. Comes out to $17.56 shipped including the stamp for the rebate (assuming that I get a rebate). Only 202 left when I placed my order.

'Tis a shame that until recently, I was finally getting my spending under control.

And then...I ended up with an NEC Superscript 870 laser printer I didn't need, a Sentry fire-safety box that I didn't really need, a couple DVD-ROM drives from CompGeeks that I didn't need, an Epson 860 inkjet printer I didn't need (I just got the free HP 930C from the E-stamp dealie), and now this scanner...which I don't need!

Man, I really need help.

As a followup to the "duplicate account" problem at Insight. I am still waiting for an e-mail response, two hours later. Being naturally impatient, I decided to call Insight. Ends up my account was created in 1996. It wasn't even an Internet account. No e-mail or anything. I found out my account number and was able to access my account, enter e-mail and password information and order the scanner. This Insight system seems pretty stupid to me.

This is a heck of a deal. Most scanners for this price are 600 X 300, not 600 X 1200 dpi. I am going to sell my one month old 600 X 600 scanner for $20 and make $3 on this deal. One feature I hope this scanner has is a fast preview time.

Down to 199 left when I ordered. This will sell out within a day or so.

Umax has a 2000U and a 2100U listed at their website. But I don't see any 2010U.

http://www.buyumax.com/product.asp?sku=1631021 This is the only information I could find at the Umax website on the 2010U. It almost looks like the French version, given the wording on this page. I suspect this model is either the 2000U or 2100U. Not sure which.
