well..todays' been interesting. I finally got my GoldenOrb in and put it onto my p3 700 fcpga and hooked the slotket into the mobo [abit bf6]. and booted it up..it tried to find the IDE things and only came up with one cd-rom drive, when i have another cd-rom drive and of course my HD.

my HD was set up properly on the IDE1 cable with itself the 'master'. the two cd-rom's were on the ide2 cable and proplery set up with one as master and the other as slave. so I tried everything I could think of to get it to work no-go.

So i went and downloaded the newest bios from the abit site and attempted to flash the bios. Baaaad idea. there's a little graph that shows if it was able to update the bios, or if an error occured at any part. Well there was a certain section that didn't get updated [for whatever reason] and so I rebooted..only to see my cpu come up at a p3 466e. so immedietly I went into the softmenu and tried to change it BACK to the p3 700. but there wasn't any cpu's listed and the thing locked up on me.

And now I haven't been able to do anything. Any suggestions, hints, tricks, whatever on what I should do now would be appreciated.

And I'm wondering what would happen if I changed a jumper around to 'discharge' the cmos?

Your BIOS probably didn't flash right. Fortunately, your motherboard probably had a firmware BIOS that it could use in emergencies. For now, run your computer at whatever it can run at (466), and download the BIOS update again with a new disk. Try updating it again. When you successfully update your BIOS, all your troubles will go away.

yea tuff I ended up just clearning the bios with the jumper supplied on the mobo. so now it's detecting the cpu, but still hasn't found my HD, and I can't figure out WHY. I've even tried to manually put in the values and that doesn't want to work either.

RealScud,

Have you tried just having your HDD attached without having either of your CD-ROM drives attached. I used to get compatibility issues with my HDD and my CDRW (Mitsumi 4801TE i think) where it would find the HDD one time and the CDRW drive another time. Try just having your HDD hooked up and see if it detects it. I don't remember what fixed my problem it just started working. I think maybe had a firmware upgrade.

Yes and yes..I've tried both, having just my HD connected and it still won't detect it..even tried going and using different cables from my prior box that i KNOW work..still no good.

first thing that comes to mind is to check your cables. make sure the red line is lined up in the right spot. all the red ines from the cables should line up the same way on the mobo, but the orientation could differ on your 2nd cd-rom and your hard-drive. try plugging in the cables to the hd and 2nd cd-rom the other way. also, make sure that the bios is set to automatically check for them.

Ok..I'm an idiot..I got the HD and the whole system working pretty much. Turns out I got the IDE1 and IDE2 mixed up and that's why it wasn't seeing my HD.

But my problems aren't all over..oh no..now I got no sound as everytime something is SUPPOSED to play a sound it gives me the BSD that relates to the sb-live I have installed. Tried changing pci slots and reinstalling the driver software..but still nothin..gonna try putting the drivers in again to see if that might work..
