The ball never hit the dirt. Why the hell would the catcher roll the ball to the mound and head off to the dugout if he even thought it had hit the ground?!!

Umpires really screwed up big time.

Real bummer. That was the decisive moment, you know that sh$t will happen next - and it did...

Credit to Scossia for not making a big stink of it at the ESPN press conference. That sort of "slap the other cheek" mentality will make Angels champs. But - who will be there next to start - and where are the bats - common Vlad...

I think some of you are not clear on the rule.

IF the there are 2 strikes and and the batter misses strike 3 YET the catcher trapes or drops the ball the batter can run to 1st.

in teh game the ump NEVER called out.

So yes you can have a 3rd call strike but still take 1st.

Actually, I thought the people on Fox were saying that the Ump called out the batter twice.

Here's what was odd about it. A) He definitely caught the ball. The Ump thought he didn't yet he still did the punch out motion with his arm.

You are still struck out, so making the out call is correct even if the catcher drops the ball.

It still counts as a strike out, even though the runner gets on first.

Regardless of whether or not the catcher trapped the ball, the umpire still made the hand motion signaling that the batter struck out. THAT was what was bs about the play.

Tough way to lose a game.

Ump had nothing to do with Ozuna stealing second and Crede hitting a double to score the run. Sure, the call to get Pryzynski to first was bad, but that call did not end the game. Giving up the double ended the game.
It was a bad call.
It influenced the game.
It did NOT end the game. Blame Escobar for not being able to get the last out. Blame Paul for not being able to throw out a baserunner.

ok nobody is arguing that the Angels lost the game because of that call. Nobody knows what would have happened had that actually been a strikeout. What we do know is that the Angels had a completely unfair call that put runners in scoring position when there should have been none. They had the odds stacked up against them with a runner on base when it never should have happened in the first place.

This only reaffirms the need for instant replay in baseball. What are they worried about, the game getting slower? They should have a system like football where managers can challenge the calls, etc. I sincerely hope the Angels do not lose the series because of the game last night. The good news is that they split 1-1 on the road and can now come back home and hopefully win their home games. If anything this will only rile up the Angel players and fans, thus putting more pressure on the WhiteSox, and we all know how the Sox' do under pressure.

Search the forum. There's an hd clip, some screens, and another whole thread about it.

Guy strikes out swinging, catcher catches it but his glove hits the dirt, batter starts to walk away, catcher rolls the ball back up to the pitchers mound, batter takes off and reaches first, brain dead and retarded umpire calls him safe.

After watching the replay on First and 10, the Angels totally got SCREWED.

I hate Skip Bayless even more because he is defending the umpire and saying the ball skipped.

I hope Woody Paige totally fvcking owns him.
