unable to access another PC in same domain

both pc have win10 on same network "workgroup"
PC A with user1
PC B with user2
user1 on PC A has no problem accessing a shared folder on PC B.
BUT user 2 on PC B cannot access a shared folder on PC A. when i click on the shared folder on PC A, it would ask for credentials. after entering in the user n pw, it said wrong id or wrong pw.

both computers are exactly identical in hw n sw. any ideas?

You got any firewalls involved?
What does 'net use' show on each machine?

You could try giving permissions on the folder share to the "everyone" account, however doing it this way will make it so that a password is not required. Otherwise it could be the formatting of the username when the system asks for username and password, might have to format the username as "PC A\user 2"

what is net use? where can i find that?

i did use "everyone" when i shared the folder to eliminate the pw. but it still asks for id and pw. weird! i will try the format you suggested and see... will let you know

"Net Use" is in command prompt in windows.

ON pc 2 try setting correct login and restart both at same time. Sometimes file sharing acts up when you change user login too many times and it takes a restart to fix.

You have to make sure there is the same user account and password on both machines. In addition BOTH machines must have the same TYPE of account. If one has a local account, then that has to be a local account on the other machine.

You cannot go from MS live to local and vice versa.

Or you have to be attempting to use the user name and password exactly as it appears on the other machine, but you'll always get the prompt then (for file sharing).

BTW, Everyone only means every user account on the current machine, it does NOT mean you can log in to the share with an account that does not exist on that machine.

ok., i got it now! 1 of the computer was not signed in as local.
so after i stopped the MS online account on 1 of the pc, all is well

maybe the other device has been connected to a VPN that doesn't allow it to access the other device. Check your settings.
