Brand New Hard Drive installing into an older Compaq 5000 series PC. THe original hard drive has gone bad(make gawd awful clunking noises) and has been replaced. During xp setup the drive can be seen, partitioned, and formatted. After xp copies setup files and reboots, I get the message "Unable to Access Hard drive.
I pulled the drive and put it in another PC to boot to and the xp setup begins to install. I turn off that pc and put it back in the compaq and boot to it and same error.....unable to access hard drive???????
I don't think it's a prolem with the cable....the drive is recognized, can be partitioned, formatted, and files copied to it...but cannot boot to it. I've taken the drive out and put it in an external usb enclosure and plug it into another PC and it's recognized without a problem...I can copy files to it no problem. I just can't boot to it. What am I missing? Thanks!
