Unable to copy files from CD.

The problem is, when I try to install Rome: Total War (retail, not copy), during the installation I get error messages saying like "unable to copy this file"...
I get the same messages if I try to copy the files from the disc manually. (And I've tried different drives).

The thing is, all would be fine if I just could get the installation program to not try to copy the file. The file in question is just a intro movie, and the game would run fine without it. So what I'm asking for is essentially a way to bypass the copying of that particular file. Any suggestions?

um, copy all files but that one???

open the cd in explorer, highlight all files until you get to that file. copy those files. go back to explorer, highlight all files after the one you don't need, copy...

really, thats basic windows stuff...

Well, as I said I'm installing the game Rome: Total War, which means it's not just a disc with some files on.

I was just wondering if there was a way to force the installation program to bypass the copying of the particular file, as that file have become corrupt and trying to copy it just gives error messages.
(Remember that the file in question is not required to play the game, it's just an intro movie.)

Or if there are any other suggestions how I should do? I just want to install the game so I can play...

do what i said and try to install it from the HD, see if it works?
otherwise, borrow someone else's cd

If I understood you correctly, you are saying that I should open the cd in explorer and copy all the files except the corrupt one, right?

The thing is, all the game files are not just lying in the open unpacked and in the right structure. (Except for some files, like this intro movie).

No, the InstallShield installation program unpacks the game files and put them in the correct catalogs. This is impossible to do manually.

My question remains, is there any way for me to get InstallShield to like "skip read errors" or something? Or is there another way?

There's tips on how to install if problems arise. However, there's a particular thread that looks like the same problem you're having. The suggestion there is to exchange the disc:

copy everything on the cd to the hd except that file. make a dummy file with the same name as the bad one, put it in the same relative position in the file structure, install from the hd and let it copy that one during the install.

some copy protection schemes may not like that though but its worth a try..
