Unable To Delete Vista

So yes I decided to be an idiot and try to see what vista was like so I installed it to my D: drive which happens to be my storage drive.

After messing around with vista for a few hours I got tired of it and decided to delete it. Obviously I couldn?t reformat since it is on my storage drive but I figured that being logged in on Windows XP would allow me to delete all the vista files since XP should have no dependency on Vista.

Well when I tried to delete the folders/files made by vista and most of them deleted but the folder is still about 1.7 gigs and files won't delete. It says sthat the files are in use or protected.

In safe mode I WAS able to delete some files by changing the owner back to my XP account and giving it full permissions. So I believe that is the problem, the files are set to an owner that does not exist anymore and some of them I just can not change.

Someone please help me because I?m completely out of ideas.

Things I have tried:
Killbox and many other file deletion utilities
Safe mode with command prompt

Killbox doesn't work? Even if you tell it to shut down the explorer shell, or delete on reboot?

In a situation like this, you should definately have created a separate partition with which to test Vista, but I suppose you are aware of that now.

Yea, reboot option as well as explorer kill doesnt do anything. The problem seems is that windows sees that the owner/amin of the files is not the admin of Win XP and my XP admin des not have write/delete privilages for those files. It makes no sense though since the files are not being used since XP is loading of of a completely drifferent partition.

its not really warez since the version dies on the first of june i believe so it is a time locked piece of software anyway. but back on point, does anyone have any other ideas?

Is the drive ntfs?

If it's fat32, just use a linux live cd, mount the drive, delete the folder. Done.

If it's ntfs, you could try it with an ntfs-enabled live cd, but write support is still not something I'm entirely comfortable with, so use at your own risk. Back up your stuff first.

Also, can't you just use the recovery console? I dunno...

What words did you use in the earlier search? You need to specify words that relate to the key elements of the problem.
