I don't think we can totally blame Corey. She obviously got handed a turd of a case and while it's probably ambition that made her prosecute, none of us can really know. And while I think the verdict was the correct one, I can accept an over-zealous prosecution of someone who kills a child a lot more easily than pot or gambling law breakers.

Huh. I find that hard to believe but Florida is wacky. I have never heard of any American jurisdiction in which the state would he held liable for defense costs in the event of an acquittal. O'Mara is smart and knows what he's talking about, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

That's exactly how I picked up on O'Mara talking to the jurors, as if they are stupid. I'm sure they felt the same way.

With his "Oh really" over and over again, was ridiculous. He sounded like an idiot trying to use phases to convince someone of what was not the truth. And that's exactly how I believe the jury picked up on it. The carrying of that block of cement was another stupid move, was he trying to insinuate that Trayvon was walking around with a block of cement? Trayvons "so called" weapon. Trayvon didn't come to this fight prepared, because he didn't suspect that he would have to fight his way home from a convenience store. Zimmerman started the fight and ended the fight and there is no way that in between Trayvon became the aggressor. If Zimmerman had gotten his head slammed into concrete as he has stated, he wouldn't be around to talk about it. It's all BS and I'm sure the jury will see right thru all of Zimmermans lies.

Ah - I was forgetting about the self-defense statute (which I assume is what he's talking about). I don't know how that applies where, as here, there is not a ruling in favor of self-defense until after the criminal case is concluded. Again, I defer to O'Mara but it seems strange to me that the legislature would create a law which would leave the state holding the bag for defense costs in any case where the defendant was found to have acted in self-defense. I imagine he knows what he's talking about, though, and I have no experience in the application of this law.
