Man, I didn' t even notice that.

Oh well, I guess I'll make a copy of my cutout UPC code from the box and send that in.

Why would the do such a thing? Is it safe to assume that if I DO indeed send in my original UPC code, they won't accept it?

Here is what they said if you line your copy with the one on the box it should be an exact match or they won't take it.
strange isn't it.
What can this possibly mean? There is no difference between scanning and printing and taking the damn box to Kinkos and using their copying machine. It will produce the same results. They can't possibly justify rejecting your scan/print. How would they even know the difference? I cut out my scan with a scissors. There's no way for them to detect a difference. Jeez.

DAMNIT, I just sent in the original UPC. I've never seen a request for a photocopied one, cept on multiple rebates for the same item. I did make a copy of the UPC before I sent it, so I'll have to send them a copy of that as well....

I'd definitely complain to someone if they reject your rebate because of sending in the original UPC cut from the box. That's the stupidist thing I've ever heard. The whole purpose of sending in the UPC code is to give them proof of your purchase. An original UPC cut from the box is more proof of your purchase than a photo copy of any kind.

If they do deny it, this is just a blatant way of keeping you from cashing in on your rebate. I'd definitely contact the BBB or someone if this turns out to be the case.

I just called Best Buy rebate center. Spoke with a manager in that department as well as my CSR. Both said my scanned copy which was 4x the normal size would be fine. The reitterated that should the rebate be rejected that I would get a letter telling me to send in a "photocopy" of the UPC. Hopefully, that will calm this part of the discussion down.

Just as long as they don't decide that they want the original UPC, I should be fine. I don't know if I'm going to keep my card or not and if I sell it, I'll most likely sell it with the UPC code since the rebate wants a photocopy of the UPC.

Previous rebates, as seen in Best Buys RebateCenter .

BFG MODEL: ASLMTI4200
SKU: 4832845

10/27 to 11/02/2002 - $ 20.00 - Original UPC barcode cut from box. Offer # 9839 PO Box 1845 New Rochelle, NY 10802-1845

10/28/2002 TO 11/14/2002 - $20.00 - Original UPC barcode cut from box
(UPC #855650000012) - Best Buy Rebate #29685 PO Box 9500 Calais, ME 04619-9606

11/29/2002 TO 11/30/2002 - $55.00 - Photocopy of UPC barcode from box - Best Buy Rebate #30729 PO Box 7600 Calais, ME 04619-7706

Maybe I'll hold on to the card till I receive my $55 rebate and sell this at a profit. Or return this to Best Buy or another store and tell this that this was a gift (lost/misplaced the receipt). Probably get credited for $199.99+ tax.

I'll send my rebate form with the words "Photocopy of UPC barcode from box" highlighted.

You guys inspired me to check this out so I called around to all of the Best Buys on Saturday (yes Saturday) and found one that had two of the cards left. I verified with them TWICE that they had two left, they agreed to put one aside, and then I left for the one-hour trip to the store. I got there and found that they had put aside the 64MB PNY card and not the 128MB BFG one (they had no BFG left).

Well, I talked to the manager, who was very cool, and I got a 128MB Visiontek Ti4200 at the same cost since I had driven all that way there. It is a good card and hits 315/560 no problems with my H20 setup (although I've dialed back to defaults-- no need to OC right now). Only problem is it doesn't come with the DVI/Analog converter thing... will have to pick that up elsewhere.

Best Buy folks here were pretty reasonable... no complaints!

A lot of people had problems with the pricematch receipts last year. Reason is that they show another purchase date. And this just gives the rebate companies another reason to reject the rebate.

I was worried that I was going to miss out on this deal because I din't want to get up at 6am, wait in line and find they are all sold out. I had given up on this card and so I decided to wait till the next day and see if I could get the 64MB at Compusa. Since BB was on my way to cusa I decided to pop in and see what kind of Leftovers they had. I walked straight to the PC section to look around. At first it looked like the Ti4200s were all sold but I decided to poke around anyway. After afew minutes of rearrangement "BEHOLD" there it was the last BFG Ti4200 was staring back at me defiantly (I swear someone had stashed it there intentionally). I could not believe it . After asking around I was told the deal was still on. I just had to get it even though I was close to maxing out my credit card. Shelled out some $154 after tax and went home immediately. all i can say is "I am a proud owner of a Ti4200". I still can't believe it

For the guys that got up at 5AM on Friday - Sorry

Did anybody get their card to actually overclock? I mean not just from the numbers that your overclocking program shows... is there a significant difference when you run a benchmark?

I tried overclocking using nvidia's drivers (with coolbits set) and powerstrip on windows... and nvclock on linux... all of the programs show that the card is overclocked, but benchmarking on 3dmark or Quake 3 shows no change. I also tried underclocking, and still no change. Is there something with this card that locks out overclocking? I've overclocked my geforce 2 the same way and the benchmarks did show significant changes.

I've gotten mine to oc. It seems about average for a 4200 that's not a turbo (albatron) or golden sample (gainward. I'm very happy with it. Here's my numbers.

Core-310
Memory-600

Mine got close to 9000 out of the box. That's with my trusty old athlon 1.4. Overclocked I got 11113. That's with cpu running at 1599. I eased it up , so every move resulted in a higher score. Here's the link if anyone's interested.

My score 11113

Has anyone image quality problems with this card? I was getting lots of artifacts right out of the box. I was seeing some really strange stuff in Ghost Recon, UT, and 3Dmark2001se. I tried everything I could think of to no avail.

Finally, I called my local Best Buy and explained the problem. They were very helpful and said to just bring the card back and I'd get a new one. I did this and when I opened the box, I found a totally different looking video card inside. On my first card, I had a blue heat sink, a bright green board, and samsumg memory. On the 2nd card, I have a larger silver heat sink, a blue-green board, and a different type of memory. Both are 128MB Geforce4 4200 by BFG. Does anyone know the difference between these cards? Do some overclock better than others? Are there more than two varieties?

By the way, the artifacts are better, but not totally gone. I am going to try to reinstall all my drivers (again) and see how that works. If that yields nothing, I guess I will reformat unless anyone else has an idea.

BFG only honors the lifetime warranty as long as you have your purchase receipt and your original UPC bar code. So, if you lose your receipt or mail in your UPC, you have no warranty. That's the reason. I'm not saying it's a good one, but it's a reason none the less. This is a retarded warranty policy. I'd much rather have a one-time warranty registration.

I stepped out of line since I can return the RAM later. I went to check out the video cards & ALL of the BFG cards were there. Not a single one was missing from the shelves! Unless they just restocked, of course.
I picked up one of the cards, installed it, and immediately ran 3D Mark. I'm not very impressed. I only scored 8196! WTF? My old MSI GF2 GTS Pro almost scored that. Now, granted, I haven't done any tweaking so it maight get better. One other thing, the amount of clipping while running the tests was horrible. It even locked up when I ran the DEMO movie within 3D Mark.
I'm going to do some cleaning & tweaking to see if I can make this any better but I'm not too impressed at the moment.
BTW: I also played the UT2K3 demo with everything turned on & it ran perfectly! Very nice looking with no clipping, artifacting, or any other hiccups. Weird.
Here's my system stats for those who're wondering:
MSI KT3 Ultra ARU - 768 MB PC2100 RAM - 2x 40 GB HDD in RAID 0 - Enermax Whisper 350W PSU - and of course, BFG GF4 Ti4200

You got something wrong with your setup if it's not a LOT faster than a GF2 GTS

I got in on this deal, and I have to say this card is awesome. Mine runs rock stable at 315/630. I remember not doing much better on a Ti4400, the memory went to around 650, but the core could never go above 310 without artifacting. It even goes higher with occasional artifacting.

Problem solved!

In case anyone needs to know: I re-installed my Geforece 3 Ti 200 and then proceeded to completely un-install all drivers.

Then I put in the Geforce4 Ti4200, updated the VIA 4in1, re-installed DirectX 8.1, then installed drivers 40.72. Works like a charm!

Good Lord I just received the $55 rebate after only three weeks.

Thank you wizards23 for this awsome deal, and a thumbs up for the Best Buy Rebates coming faster than manufacturer's rebates.
I'll choose Best Buy over competition as a result of this for sure.

I couldn't justify the cost to upgrade from a GF3 (on my 2 year old box) so my card is goin' back to Best Buy on Christmas Eve.
