LukFilm, You said:
such as LCD monitors (I heard there's supposed to be one for $99 after all rebates)

Did you hear which one it could be? wizards23 could you give us a hint about this monitor?

Last year I drove by BB about 30 minutes before they opened, line of at least 500 people waiting to get in. I went home and went to bed.

It seems you'd have to get there at about 3:00 AM or earlier to guarantee it, or else go the pricematch route. I think most/all retailers have wised up to the pricematch thing. Wal-Mart has *Nothing* out, neither did the BB I visited.

Basically this stuff is pure and simple bait-and-switch. They have no intentions of providing deals to anymore than about 1-2% of the prospective customers. There should be laws against this IMHO (there already are laws that make them state # per store).

With the DMCA garbage pulled off this year, I'll sleep in :disgust:

Will they pricematch even if they've gone and run out of stock? I thought all pricematches had to be for in-stock items...dunno if that includes BB themselves.

Great deal.

Lol, I should go into tonight, grab every single one they have and hide them, then pimp them out to everyone on friday. Something like: "Psst, hey you. You want one of these hot 4200s? Yeh dawg. I know where one is in the store. It's hidden man. All it'll cost you is $15 cash right now and I'll show you where it is." hahah that would be hilarious. BB would probably kick me out though for antagonizing the customers or something though, lol!

Sniff, sniff, is that fish I smell? At BestBuy.com, the Asylum GeForce 4 Ti4200 128Mb, Model #: ASLMTI4200 sells for $199.99. So, time for a math lesson: $199.99 minus $50IR = $149.99. $149.99 minus $80MIR = $69.99, final price after rebates.

Now, Wizards23 says the final price is $89. Where did the $20 difference come from?

The best advice I can give is if you are going to bet that this deal will happen as advertised, then I would go buy the card tonight!

Edit: But, be careful not to lose anything from the box, because according to Best Buy, you must "Include all original packing materials, manuals and accessories with the product to avoid any additional fees." Personally, I don't bother to open the box until I can confirm the deal and get the price adjusted. This is always the safest method when dealing with a variety of different return policies at various B&Ms.

AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT OPEN THE BOX UNTIL YOU PERSONALLY CONFIRM THE DEAL !!! Otherwise, BB may slap you with a restocking fee or not refund all of your money when you go to return it.

hmmm...did bb change its return policy? i used to open and try video cards and computer stuff all the time and return with no problems and no restocking fees. as long as you have the receipt and everything is in the box, you have 30 days. (except for full systems, monitors, camcorders, etc...)

No.. They didn't change it. You get 30 days on this card if you open it or not. They give you 14 days on computers, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, etc and they charge a 15% open box return fee on these items, but the video card doesn't fall under any of these categories.

No.. That's wrong. You posted the policy. Where does it say that they will slap a 15% restocking fee on this card if it's opened?

BTW.. Just buy the damn card and then get a price adjustment Friday. You don't even have to bring the card with you on Friday. Just the receipt. That's what I'm doing. I placed an order online for in-store pickup and I'm going to pick it up as soon as they say I can. I'm not going to try and wait until Friday to pick it up because my card might mysteriously dissapear from stock.

Why did wizards start 2 threads on the same deal? I am a little skeptical on this one. Here is the other thread.

This thread was started in the Video Card forum and moved by the mods. I think they should have checked for an existing thread before they moved it.

Anyway, if this deal turns out to be BS, I wonder how many hidden cards will be found weeks later?

Guys--I wouldn't get this deal before Friday morning. If it were just a price adjustment, that'd be one thing. But the new deal requires a rebate requiring a receipt posted as bought on Friday or later. I guess you could always just return it and rebuy it, but I'd be wary...

How I see it:

Best Buy (Ti4200 here)

Pros
$90 card (on Black Friday)
128MB RAM
DVI connection

Cons
350MHz RAM
Buy early and risk you won't get a rebate (unless they let you return and rebuy -- and a guy from Best Buy above said his store won't let you do that)
Wake up early, and even then you might not get one
$80 in rebates at risk

CompUSA (Ti4200 here)

Pros
No waiting -- buy it now online or in-store
500MHz RAM
$50 in rebates at risk -- appear to be manufacturer's rebates

Cons
$100 (still a good deal, but not as good as $90)
64MB RAM
No DVI

Bottom line: Unless you need the 128MB or the DVI, I think I would pay $10 more and get a faster card and sleep in Friday morning.

I am going to buy it tonight and then return it and they just buy it again.

What can they do? They are advertising it at the new rate when I purchase it again.

I may hide some too

Just snagged one at local BB (Houston, Highway 6 and Westheimer). There were about 4 of these sitting on the shelf. So the plan is, I go in on Friday, ask them to pricematch with their current deal (199.99 - 50.00 instant rebate - 80.00 mir) and walk out feeling superior?

I hope this works!

P.S. - After I bought this, I came home and realized I had that 10% off coupon in my Sports Illustrated issue. Can I take this coupon on Friday and ask for the price adjustment, and they will honor it?

I think this has a dual RAMDAC--will this card do video overlay using two monitors?

The compusa deal isnt that good u can find similar pricing on pricewatch.com. for teh 64MB version where as the 128MB version costs an extra 40 bucks.

Something must be up with this. I tried doing an in-store pickup order from 2 different stores near me and the orders were both cancelled within 10 minutes of being submitted. BB definitely has some kind of deal going with this, but it's also obvious that they're dead set on thwarting all of us. I'd rather just work an extra shift and pay $40 more. Just my opinion, though.
