So this would probably be a nice upgrade to a GF 2 with 32Mb? Do you think I'll be cpu bound with a 1Ghz P3 and this 4200 board?

From a GF2 32MB it should be an excellent upgrade. Usually the Video Card is the bottleneck so I don't think your 1 GHz P3 should hold you back. The GF3 and beyond have better 2-D quality than earlier models so that's another good reason to upgrade.

Bring the card with you when you go to BB, but leave it in the car. Go in with your receipt only, and tell them that you saw the current price has an IR and MIR, so you would like to get the current price. Handle all the paperwork, and you don't even need to have the card in your hand. If they start to pull things on you now like not giving you the rebate, or just changing the price without a return/rebuy, then you gotta prepare for war. I would guess that they won't give you any hassle since the card would have been bought anyhow, they are just updating the price for you.

I did this same thing last year with the GF3-Ti200. I left it in my trunk and just took in my receipts, walked out 30 minutes later with my rebates. No problem. I would totally rush out and grab this card, but I don't know how much I trust this BFG place...

it all depends on the manager or its workers.

Use your head. Just because you pricematch, that doesn't mean you lose your return privilages, which requires a receipt. They HAVE to give you a new receipt and obviously it is in their best interest to give you one with the lower price on it.

Oh, and the BFG card is fine. It's not the best overclocker, but from my experience so far, you can trust the BFG brand.

My girlfriend is an advertising attorney. She took a look at the ad, and pointed out that the first page has the heading "6 AM 'TIL NOON", and all of the items on that page have "FRIDAY 'TIL NOON" on the yellow price tage next to them. Nowhere on the video card page does it mention anything about the deal being Friday morning at all - the yellow tag next to the video card only says "$89.99 After Instant & Mail-In Rebates". According to her 'professional' opinion - "the video card is clearly on sale all day Friday and Saturday, not just Friday morning". Otherwise, they would be violating bait and switch laws, which would never have gotten past the ad's legal review. So, if you can't find a parking spot until 12:01 p.m. on Friday, you should still be okay. And if the shelves are bare of these things on Friday, try again First thing Saturday morning, because if they don't honor the return/repurchase deal, I have a feeling they are going to have a bunch returned on Friday to restock Friday night.
Heh.. It took an attorney to figure that one out. Seriously, this is just like the GF3 Ti200 deal from last year. You will be able to return/rebuy Friday and Saturday with this card because it's not part of the "Friday 'Til Noon" sale. Even though this card is on sale Friday and Saturday, it will be gone within the first 20 minutes after the doors open.

As far as BFG's credibility goes, I had heard that some ex-employee's from Visiontek started this company, so I would think that this company would be in-line with Visiontek. I'm pretty sure the story is true too because BFG is located in Lake Bluff, IL which is about 10 minutes from where Visiontek was from in Gurnee, IL (where I live btw..)

And to THINK, I was gonna wait till Friday to pick up that card in Paramus. I would have SUCKED if I did that. I got in, and picked out the last one.

BTW, if I want to get in on that IR/MIR deal, do I have to go back to the same store? Or can I do it at another store?

Unless there is a store a lot closer to you than the one you bought it from, just go to the original one. You might be able to work the return rebuy in another store, but to be sure I would call them beforehand, and they are gonna be busy anyhow, so you might then end up missing out on the deal completely.

Since this is not a door buster deal, you have until closing time on Saturday to get the correct receipt and instant saving.

do you guys think this geforce4 ti4200 will be able to play doom3 decently

Overclocked, it should approximate the best video cards performance so it should play Doom 3 well. Of course if the next generation of vid cards are released before Doom 3, the Ti4200 won't be as good but newly released cards are always out of my price range anyway. Is Doom 3 still scheduled for a March 2003 release?

Um, I don't think this is correct. If you go to BB's Black Friday circular you will see that it says:

"Friday, November 29
6 AM 'TIL NOON"

I do not think you will be able to get this deal if you come in at any other time unless they have made some exception for this deal (of which I do not see any evidence for).

If you check the bottom of page 11 of the BB circular it says: "Prices and offers good through Nov.30, 2002", so all of the sale prices are good until then except for those items that are part of 6 hour specials, and I don't see anywhere in the ad that states that this video card is part of the 6 hour special

That's only the stuff on the front page. The vid card is a 2 day sale.

No "Friday 'Til Noon" on the yellow price tag for this video card.

So it should be on sale till Saturday, if you could still find one.

You should be able to go to another store. All BB are linked up. Last yr for the Ti200 deal, I was in SoCal visiting my parents when I purchased the card in the Bay Area and had no problem doing the return/rebuy. Hopefully it is as easy as it was last year. There is no way I am getting up early again. Since it is a 2 day sale, I would go later in the day when they are not as crowded and the CSR have a little more time to deal with things.

Any BB you want. In fact, if I meet up with a d*ck manager, I'm going to a different BB to do the return/rebuy.

One thing to remember guys/gals.. You must do a return and then repurchase the card. A price match will not give you the correct dates on the receipt for the mail in rebate. If you simply do a PM, you will only get the instant rebate and not the MIR.

No, BB does 30-day pricematching.

Yes.. Make sure you go in by Saturday at closing to do your return/rebuy (are you making up our own terminology now? ). A 30 day PM guarantee isn't going to mean d*ck because you won't see a $55 IR and $55 MIR on this card within the next 30 days. I can guarantee that.

That's what I was just going to ask about (the 2D), and I'll ramble a bit if that's OK: I have 2 systems and one decent V-card, a geforce2 Pro 64 MB DDR (MSI 8831 Starforce). When I bought this card a couple of years ago I saw that there was a fair amount of controversy about allegedly poor 2D for a lot of these cards. The word was that it wasn't nVidia's fault, but the fault of certain of the companies that used the nVidia chips on cards. Many of these manufacturers used somewhat shoddy RF filtering (an FCC requirement to prevent problems with RF interference). I was unable to find out if MSI was guilty of this and I bought the card anyway. My impression from a lot of posts was that it was only particularly noticeable with large displays - 20" and larger, but many people were miffed at the inferior 2D, compared to, say, some of the Radeon cards. I never noticed a problem, probably because I've been using a 17" display. But I plan on using this Ti4200 with a 21" display. Is this 2D problem a thing of the past with the newer geforce cards?

LOL, ya, whatever it takes to "win", or in this case get one. I have only "hidden" once. After Mgr. @ CC said he couldn't hold HD for me till I got off work. I was there early and all, but the checkout line was a mile long and I was going to be late for work. He said it would not be fair to other people. Props for his integrity, I feel his answer was fair, although at the time, I was EXTREMELY dissapointed. I stashed two H.D.'s in one of the podiums (the ones with monitors to check stock, etc.). When I got off work in the afternoon, lo and behold they were still there.I know at least 10 people saw me do it.That place was wall to wall. Should have seen the look on the sales clerk face,"Man, where did you find these, they've been sold out for hours..." LOL. If you can get the item ahead of time, (before sale) thats a shoe in for the sale price, just make sure you go in during the sale to pricematch, IMHO. I was hoping that BB would bait us with a ti4200 128MB, but I screwed up & didn't see this post until Turkeyday. I'm a real cheapass, but at this point Newegg is looking better all the time. Anyone know of another place to get a "Steal" on a ti4200 128MB card?? Good luck to all
