Whoa.... I just thought of something...

You know how the rebate wants a COPY of the UPC, and not the original... Couldn't you just photocopy it and return the video card to the store and get a refund, and in essence make the rebate money?

It's fraud, I know, and I'm not in any way saying you should do it... in fact, DON'T DO IT... I'm just saying that don't usually companies say original UPC so you don't do that?

sorry for the long message! (oh, compusa was a bust - no surprise. i got there way too late! office depot was empty so i scooped up the free cdr 50-pack. since i had everything i wanted i didn't waste my time at office max. home by ~11:30 - not too bad a morning's work! oh, one more thing - the lcd looks sweet, decent size and built-in speakers, but it didn't work! seems like the backlight is busted. grr. 'nother trip to bb on monday...!)

You won't get the rebate. Same thing that happened last year with ppl that didn't get a new receipt.

I just waltzed in at around 8:00 P.M. today (Saturday) and found one sitting on the shelf - so I picked it up. This is a hot deal since all the 128 MB Ti4200 cards are at least $140 on pricewatch. The card comes with a lifetime warranty and 24/7 toll-free tech support - this is insane! Plus there's some cute (for lack of a more appropriate word) writing on the back of the box. These guys really are insane!

One of the benefits of living in a small town.

Trevelyan, I don't know about BB rebates, but Staples rebates specifically say "not valid on returned items" - meaning, I believe they check the transaction number on the receipt to make sure you haven't returned it. Of course, I could be wrong, but, that was my impression.

That would explain their acceptance of a photocopy of the UPC. They have a record in their system for your transaction. If you return, that record registers it and before they honor your rebate (send you a check), they check the system to make sure you didn't return. Makes total sense.

No, its not really THAT HOT. You can get the same cards for about $110-120 from various vendors online. Also, BB rebates SUCK. I did the return/buy thing last year with the Ti200s. Took months to get my $50 back.

How about a link? No way can you get a 128 mB 4200 with the dvi adapter for $110 or even $120. Best price at newegg is $145 and its out of stock. Basically this card was $155 after tax before rebate, $100 after. This is a hot deal, i've been waiting a couple months for a card just like this.

Thanks again wizards23.

It took months, but I got my $50 TI 200 rebate with a "Pricematch" receipt. That's also what I have this year and I don't anticipate any problems a phone call won't solve.

I assume I just need to make a copy of my UPC code and use the rebate receipt that was given and that's all there is to it?

I remember last year them talking about not using rebate receipts, etc. I just want to make sure I get it right the first time.

I'm just wondering if a scanned and printed UPC is considered a valid "photocopy." Also, I didn't bother cutting the UPC label out of the box, I just scanned the side of the box with the UPC on it. Do you think this will be okay? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

"i got the raincheck with the rebates"
not to be bothersome, but aren't the rebates for a specific date? if one gets a deal from raincheck later that is not within the time specified, does he/she get his/her rebate? somebody with experience in this arena should speak up to give dude the correct info... imo
cpu magazine rates 64mb pny verto higher than the 128mb visiontek incidentally...

The first thing I noticed when I took off the shrink wrap was that there was some Best Buy tape over the openings. Then I popped open the box and saw that the DVI connector was just rolling around the box without any plastic on it. Hmm another odd thing.... Turned out I had gotten a returned card that was sold to me as new.

I opened up my cad to just find the DVI adapter rolling around too, but I don't have a computer to test the card out in yet, I'm in the process of gathering up all the parts. I was wondering how all the other cards came packaged, with plastic around the DVI adapter? My box looked brand new though, I just don't want to end up with a dead returned card when I finnaly get my system together.

I posted a question about this in the other thread, but never got an answer. My DVI adapter was also just flopping around in the box. Also, the side of the box says that the card comes with a "software bundle"......mine had one cd with drivers and demos on it. The box looked like it had been opened before (loose shrink wrap, and the tab on the end of the box was wrinkled). I've also had problems with opened product being sold as new and don't want to have a problem with this. I just got back into town about an hour ago and haven't installed the card yet. We'll see if it works.....

As far as I know, the "software bundle" is just the other stuff that comes on the CD. Like the DVD software. I'm almost positive that the dvi adapter shouldn't be rolling around in there. Pretty much any connector from any card I've bought before has come wrapped. I also noticed that some of the capacitators on the dead card were different from the card that I now have.

Maybe it's just a different revision, and they decided to package the DVI differently? Who knows...

I also noticed that my box had some creases around the opening... a pretty obvious sign that it had been opened. When I first got suspicious, I just figured it was from sitting on the shelves. Then again, I'm the type of person that tends to hope for the best. If your store has mroe in stock, I'd suggest taking the card back and getting one that you can be sure about. If there's loose shrink-wrap, that usually means that they used the machine at the store, at lesat that's been my experience with most things I've bought.

My DVI connector was also rolling around in the box, along with the discs, but mine had clearly not been previously opened, came from the warehouse. The stuff just looked poorly packaged. However, the card was in a nice clear plastic casing, unlike the TI200 from last year that was just in a bag stuffed in a cardboard ring. I can't wait to get this in my rig and hopefully run BF1942 stutter-free!!!

I did exactly the same thing and I don't see why this wouldn't be exactly what they asked for. What else could they mean?

I haven't done any research but my impression is that this card supports multiple displays. Can anyone verify this? On the box it says it supports Nvidia's nView and the DVI --> VGA adaptor included (I figure) can only suggest that you can have TWO VGA connections. i.e. for TWO separate monitors. Why else would they include that adaptor? Does this support two displays nicely? The box's blurbs would suggest that it supports more than two displays. How in the world would you get that? A couple of years ago anyone who wanted 2 displays bought a Matrox card. What's the deal now?

Edit: I'm talking about two separate monitors here, not two different views of Windows on the same monitor, which seems to be what nView is about, at least partially - went to nVidia's site.

I chose to go over to Fry's early on Friday instead of BB, so by the time I got back to BB at perhaps 10, all the cards were gone. Seeing that the sale went through Saturday and feeling lucky, I went back to BB on Saturday afternoon and surprise, surprise, one of the cards is sitting on the upper shelves in the video card section. Only drawback is there was no shrinkwrap so I could be a return, but I bought it anyway. I can always exchange it if need be, when more are in stock after the sale. After I got home, I saw the post about the 10% coupon, scored one of those at the library, and went back last night to get the discount. They ended up just doing a pricematch for the difference on a separate receipt, but still gave me back my original unmolested and I still have the original rebate receipt from earlier in the day, so I will surely mail one of those instead to aviod any conflicts.

On the box it states "you can spread your work across multiple displays. IE Financial analysts can have a monitor for tracking each data stream....

sounds like you can have 2 different views on 2 diff monitors. And there is an adapter to go from DVI to vga as well as on board vga out.....

hope it helps

Thanks for your response, it's good to know I'm not the only one doing this.

About Nview - yes it lets you use 2 monitors in the following configurations:

1. 2 analog monitors - you need to use the regular VGA connection and use the DVI to VGA dongle for the other monitor.

2. One digital and one analog - just connect the digital monitor to the DVI port and the analog monitor to the VGA connection.

3. Two digital montiors - this unfortunately is not possible as far as I know.

It seems that all of today's Nvidia cards come with the ability to support 2 monitors. Just connect the two monitors and set up your preferences in Nview. You can have 2 monitors showing the exact same desktop or have your desktop stretched onto 2 monitors among other cool things.

when they mean photocopy they mean go out to your kinko's and ask for the photocopy of the UPC code.

I called the rebate center and they said they won't accept anything else besides a xerox copy of the barcode.

Here is what they said if you line your copy with the one on the box it should be an exact match or they won't take it.
strange isn't it.
