Yeah I think I know the part you're talking about and I felt the same way. I also didn't know that enemies are endless if you don't jump from vehicle to vehicle.

At first things were so hectic (and I don't think Nathan's voice cue worked the first time) that I missed the tooltip to jump vehicles. So I was going along pretty well only to have my vehicle randomly explode once I hit an invisible line where I should have jumped to another vehicle by then. There's been a couple moments like that where I don't follow their instructions perfectly, and the scripting of each sequence kind of reveals itself and breaks the immersion of having much control over the situation. That chase was the worst example of it though.

The graphics and the sheer amount of details they put into this game seriously blows me away. The wrinkles in their shirts changes as you move, the way how when you get wet, your hair is actually dampened down, instead of just some lazy "wet shine". The way the vegetation moves around you, the foot prints in the sand, or how the vehicles leave their tire tracks... And when you first wake up on pirate island... Wow that was astounding. I thought rise of tom raider looked gorgeous in my PC at ultra settings, but this is just on its own level. Even when you get muddy, just go for a swim or go underneath a water fall and you'll get cleaned up!!

It definitely looks good, but a lot of those details have been seen before. The footprints in the sand had been done well (IMO better) in Mad Max, and the way the plants move didn't appear different than what we've seen in Crysis and Far Cry for years already.

That said, having all these details run this smoothly on a console is very nice to see. I still get wowed by the lighting in this game at times, and trying to climb around in a torrential downpour after the shipwreck was definitely an impressive moment. Both visually with the water effects AND how well they conveyed Nate not being 100%. Plenty of games have moments where you character moves slower after injury, or stumbled around while drunk, but for some reason the way you had to climb around with Nate hurt made a bigger impact than other similar things I've seen before. That sequence was just well done all around.

the only time I've seen wrinkles contour to body movements are in NBA games. Crysis and Far Cry does have vegetation, but they don't wrap around the character like UC4. Maybe because it's a FPS instead of a 3rd person game, but then again, the vegetation convincingly wraps around the enemies as well.

I mean little details that ND put into this game... makes me anticipate their next title with their stamp on it. Just so incredible! The wet clothes, I mean everything ads up.

Finished Uncharted 4, never played 1-3, but did love The Last of Us. U4 was very meh, in comparison, IMO.

(Minor spoilers throughout)

Do any of the prior Uncharted ever address what a terrible person Nathan Drake is? I feel like there was a huge missed opportunity for hilarious dialogue in U4 based on the number of people you murder throughout the game. E.g.:
1) if you make it through the game sneaking by all the bad guys and not killing anyone, you get certain dialogue/the "good" ending;
2) if you only kill enemies if they attack you first (self defense) you get some dialogue/ending about whether it's morally acceptable to trespass into these guys' camps (they were clearly there first) knowing that you'll start a fight, all for material gain;
3) if you straight up murder fools left and right by ambushing them/sniping them from afar, Elena basically divorces you at the end of the game because you are a monster (and she would not be wrong).

I mean, that's not even touching the issue of Nathan Drake sneaking into foreign countries, LAYING WASTE TO HISTORICAL LANDMARKS and stealing their historical relics WITHOUT BOTHERING TO GET THE PROPER PERMITS. I totally want Naughty Dog to do a parody sequel about some Malaysian/Madagascarian treasure hunter who sneaks in the United States, destroys George Washington's historical home while retrieving a hidden map in the basement, then escaping back to Malaysia/Madagascar with some hugely significant American historical relic.

I also think it'd be hilarious if they did a parody sequel that told the story through the eyes of Rafe. He's trying to go after this treasure by doing everything legit--buying Saint Dimas' cross instead of stealing it, getting the proper visas/permits from the foreign countries, paying employees decent wages to perform the excavation/guard work, always being foiled at every turn by notorious pirate bastard Nathan Drake, who's constantly swooping in at the last minute, murdering employees, not bothering to get visas/permits, swiping the treasure, etc. They could do Rashoman-style perspective changes for certain scenes exposing Nathan Drake's perception of events as a lie.

I know I'm taking the story way to seriously, but I think it would be funny if they did a game that revealed what a huge dick Nathan Drake is.

Finished the game last night. Very good, despite starting to feel repetitive nearing the end. They threw enough variety into that last chapter or two to make it an exciting ending though.

The story was nothing special, but everything was done so well that it was like a well done big budget action movie. I'm sure the last of us had a better story, but the gameplay on that was so mind numbingly boring that I got a few hours in before trading it back in. Uncharted was never that boring, so for me it was a much better GAME even though it may not have had the better story.

I finished it yesterday afternoon as well on the second hardest difficulty. I actually took a week off from playing it because it seemed like a chore a lot of the time.. too many chapters spent just doing tedious climbing, and not enough fights.

Also couldn't believe how unsurprising the ending was.. but whatever. The game was definitely great, just felt long and drawn out.

Moving on to the last of us now.. played that for 3-4 hours then got stuck. Hopefully it has a better story

Last of us has a very nice story. Make sure you also play the extended content.

Haha I felt exactly the opposite... I wanted to get through the gunplay ASAP so I could keep moving on. Guess that means it's pretty balanced between both segments.

Did anyone else notice grainy graphics at some points? Maybe it was a film grain effect. I was worried it was my PS4 or my monitor but I read some other people noticed it.

As for the game, it had by far the best story of all the Uncharted games. I read someone tangentially compare it to National Treasure....I thought it had a much better story than National Treasure and was up there with Last Crusade.

If anything the story of the founding and downfall of Libertalia was better than the story of Nathan, Sam, Sully and Elana.

The graphics of course are without peer on consoles, and not just for the technical aspects, the level design and the vistas were just beyond what I have seen in a console game before.

As for gameplay, I enjoyed the grappling hook. I found the white x in the reticle for hits, orange x for kills and orange starburst for headshots to be a neat addition, but I actually liked the gun combat from Uncharted 3 better. I thought the reticles were way too imprecise, and I thought there was too much variety of guns. I like to pick a favorite gun and stick with it, but it seemed like every time I ran out of ammo, I had to pick up a totally different gun and deal with a totally different reticle.

In the end, I am still a sucker for Uncharted 3. Uncharted 4 had the best story, but I liked the gameplay in Uncharted 3 better.

I noticed and mentioned in this thread that I saw some strange pixel issues on characters. I wondered if maybe it was just not loading certain assets and shaders quick enough.

Man... just finish my pc. i7 6700k, 32GB ram, Sound Blaster X7, and of course GTX 1080 SC (EVGA)

Nothing comes close to this game so far... I have Tomb raiders, doom, The Witcher, Fallout 4, nothing comes close to that game in terms of detail lighting and animation. I mean shadows in the foot print is not baked in! I think it's the best looking game out right now

The audio is nice as well with lots of dynamic range.

Not to get off topic but did you really need the sound blaster card? I have used the built in audio from the motherboard for a long time now.

SB X7 is an external DAC, the difference is pretty noticeable. I even noticed the difference from my onboard to my SBZ.

Speaking of sound the sound in my new Mobo is awesome. I love it compared to what my asrock had.

I see. Lately though I have just used HDMI audio to my AVR unless I use a headset so I have not kept up at all with sound cards.

SBZ is pretty awesome. I'm sporting a edifier S760D 5.1 system. It has a DD/DTS decoder and I connect it to my ps4 along with direct input to my PC.

Ok I am on my 3rd playthrough working toward the Platinum trophy and a few plot holes really stood out to me.

Especially
The first time anyone tripped the trap in Scotland where you choose between the coin and the golden cross, it instantly becomes useless...unless someone stays behind to rebuild the trap every time. Also, there were supposedly hundreds of colonists in Libertalia, did they all "prove worthy" by going through the tests, or did the tests only determine the founders?

Got my first ever Platinum this with Uncharted 4.

My first playthrough on Moderate was 26 hours (I like to take my time and explore)
My speedrun playthrough on Explorer was 5 hours 40 minutes
My Crushing playthrough was 11 hours 37 minutes.

It probably took me about 4 hours to finish collecting treasures, journal notes and entries and conversations. Then another 2 hours to mop up the combat trophies, then another 3-4 hours to get the multiplayer trophies.

So probably ~52 hours to Platinum.

Gotta say, I am not sure how anyone could defeat crushing without the gameplay modifiers. I am not all that great at games, but the ambush in Avery's house and the exploding mummies in Avery's Descent just seem impossible to beat without gameplay modifiers.
