Purbeast, I like you and all, but if I have to read about you and your tearing problems much more, I'm going to shoot myself. I swear to god I've read the word tearing in your posts atleast 5 times a week in the past 2 months, and I've rolled my eyes every time. Give it up son, just give it up. We've not had any problems, you and I, so hate me now if you want. But somebody has to say it.

grahics are top notch. this is one of the best looking console games, if not THE best looking game, that i've ever played. the vsync tearing really pisses me off but I try to ignore it cause it just looks so sweet in general.

somebody hacked pur's password?!?

edit: ""

lol.

come on now. anyone with half a brain knows the PS3 hasn't had crap on it other than like 2 games up until this past October.

don't be mad cause I tell it how it is!

(and you know it's really me cause i cry about tearing!)

Thats not how it is.

No, you see purbeast0 also has an Xbox 360. For those of us with both systems, that IS how it is. There are other good games on the PS3, but most came out first on the 360 and/or were better on the 360. I own both systems, and the PS3 doesn't have much to offer me yet. I will be picking up Drake's Fortune based on the comments here - that'll be my second game.

Another vote for Uncharted... I am on level 9 of 20-something and can not wait to start playing again. The audio and visuals are absolutely amazing.

It sure leaves a better taste in my mouth than damn Assassin's Creed.

if you are disagreeing about the tearing in uncharted, you obviously have not played it.

i mean i own the game, i'm not trying to rip anything. i'll take a freaking pic of the game (and my other ps3 games) if you don't believe me lol.

the cutscenes in uncharted are probably the best i've ever seen in a game. it's one of the most cinematic games i've ever played and the voice acting is just awesome. graphics are incredible at parts as well. i don't think i've ever seen in awe with the swimming in a game since mario 64 until I played uncharted.

Ive not seen any tearing. What are you playing in, 720 or 1080? No tearing at all on my end, playing in either 720p, or 1080i.

720p, and i'm sorry then you just do not know what tearing is or just do not notice it. the graphics card in my PS3 is the same as yours so it is going to run the same. i'd take a video of it but i don't have my camera with me.

i saw in the GTA4 thread that people thought the framerate was fine when it's clearly not even 30FPS for the majority of the trailer, so maybe some people just ignore graphical "issues" if you wanna call it that.

I guarantee Ive been playing games on PC, or consoles longer than you. I know what tearing is. I dont have it, you're the only one complaining about it. How about you stop beating your dead horse, and move on. Make everyone happy.

you do tend to have more tearing issues that everyone else. and we all know what tearing is. although the only tearing I've seen in the Uncharted demo, is like.. horizontal tearing? If you wanna call it that? I'm used to screen tearing making bands that stretch from top-to-bottom and shift the frame around as you pan the scene. In the demo for Uncharted, all I've seen is horizontal banding, that does a similar thing. So, it's tearing, it's just not happening in the same way. Oh and, yea... I don't have the full game to compare, but I've seen you complain more about tearing than anyone else, and on games that most people never see tearing, including me, at least not to a degree that I would ever need to write about it. If it happens a couple times in a couple scenes in the game, it's nothing I'd even take note of.

yes that is v-sync tearing, which causes the top half of the screen to not be in sync with the bottom half of the screen, which causes the horizontal "tear" effect in the frame. and there are parts in the final game that it happens a lot more than what you are seeing in the demo.

if you want to see a clear example of this and have BIoshock, go to the options, and turn off the v-sync option. the framerate goes up faster but you will see there is tearing as well. with it on it's a lot smoother.

you guys are the ones complaining about me complaining about it. it's constructive criticism and i'm telling people it's there, because it's there, and it's pretty much my only gripe w/the game, and it's not much of a gripe cause it makes up for it in other areas.

oh yea and how long have you been gaming for?

over 20 years here

i believe it is a combination of pur's eyes/brain and his TV. anyway purbeast you should just drop it because nobody really cares to hear about it.

Any game without v-sync enabled is unplayable to purbeast. lets just leave it at that

haha it's not that, it's just that i wish I could ignore it and it bugs me

all this crap aside ... uncharted is one of the best games i've played in a long ass time. the games world and its story has sucked me into it like no other game I can remember in recent times. a lot of it has to do with the cutscenes and the acting/dialog in this game. it is just so lifelike and the game is presented in such a cinematic manner that its one of those games where you feel like you are playing a movie.

this is one of the first games i've played in a while where i actually LOOK FORWARD to the cutscenes. usually I just want to skip over them but in this one I can't wiat to see the next one. i also love the random jungle music/sounds in this game.

EDIT:

Here is an example of the tearing i'm talking about.

that's obviously not the game but its the same effect.

no I haven't, demo seemed like it wold be a fun game but I didn't want to pay $60 for it hearing how short it is. i'm going to try and look for it for $30 or so used after I finish this game, or I may trade uncharted for it if someone wants to do that. still not sure yet what I'm going to do.

ps3 definitely is owning the 360 as far as single player experiences go imo. i don't think i've really had as much fun playin ratchet and clank and uncharted on ps3 while playing a single player game on 360.

but i still gotta finish r&c, i am like halfway done w/it but thats when mario galaxy and cod4 and a buncha crap came out.

I didnt complain. I simply said I dont have it. Then you said I dont know what it is, and I do have it. When again... I dont. You're the only one that I have seen say such a thing, so..

Im 33 in two days. Been gaming longer... I know what tearing is. The screen shot you linked is for HL, we're talking about Uncharted here. Feel free to show a pic of that.

Im done talking about it though. I dont have any tearing, and Im not going to listen to you tell me I dont know what Im talking about.

ok but hear me out here ...

this comes from Evan Wells Q&A on developing for the PS3, and he works for Naughty Dog ...

One thing I dislike in a lot of next gen games are ?screen tearing?, and it happens to be quite a lot in the retail version I have. What do you think about this problem, and do you think you?ll overcome this problem in the future to succeed in a perfectly smooth experience?

Screen tearing is something that occurs when your frame rate dips below 30Hz. When you drop frame rate you have a choice to either drop all the way to 20Hz, or allow the screen to tear and only have the frame rate drop to 28 or 29Hz. We felt that with the frequency that it occurs, that the latter choice had a smaller impact on most player?s experiences. In fact, the vast majority of people don?t even notice it. Now ideally, our frame rate would never drop below 30Hz, but with the amount of stuff we?re doing every frame in Uncharted, inevitably it will happen occasionally. However, it?s definitely something we will be able to improve on in future games as we make optimizations to our engine.

here's the link to the whole Q&A

So even he states that most people do not notice it, and he even states that it yes is infact in his game and he knows it's there.

So yes I see it, and no you don't see it, but it is indeed still there.

Even this review talks about it.

IGN complains about tearing as well down at the end before closing comments.

Graphically, Uncharted's beautiful as you tear down trees with turrets, watch Nate's clothes saturate with lagoon water and the sun filter through the leaves, but there is a lot of texture pop-in on the jungle floor and treasures while aliasing on the walls and screen tearing are par for the course. It shouldn't take you out of the experience, but it is noticeable.

that pretty much sums up what I stated when I first even mentioned the graphics/tearing issues in this game.

I'm looking forward to possibly getting this with Christmas money. I ended up taking it back when I had rented it because I didn't have time to play it. I think I had just started on chapter 10 or 11 when I took it back.

Finally finished it. I played it on hard and man the end parts were pretty damn tough.

This is one of the best games i've played in a long ass time. The story was freaking amazing and this is one of those games that feels like you are playing a movie. You actually feel for the characters and they do a good job of expressing emotion and are even genuinely funny at parts.

If you have a PS3 and have not played through this game, do yourself a favor and grab it. It's freaking awesome!

I will admit I didn't like the way the story went at one point but when it all wrapped up at the end I completely lost the bad feeling I had about the story.
