I was in thailand not too long ago. Prices are actually higher there. My uncle actually wanted me to bring him hardware from America. Software is cheap though, even non pirated stuff is pretty cheap.

The advantage of having someone bring parts from oversea locations isn't as much now as it was in the 80's, everything is much more easily available so I wouldn't worry about getting electronics from another country

Nothing really good.

I went to Taiwan. Capital of motherboards, and all those companies. It's about the same price as online retailers in the US. Comparable to Newegg. Not too special IMO.

It's not the 80s or 90s anymore, so there's nothing really special. Maybe case fans, cables, adapters. Those sort of accessories that retail stores here markup quite a bit. Brand name stuff will probably be more expensive there.

There are so many things. I bought cooling fans when I was in China and they're so much cheaper than over here in the US. Just about everything is cheaper but don't buy digital cameras or things like iPods since they're all Chinese versions (and can only be used by a person who still remembers his/her Chinese).

Don't let him bring too much or the customs will charge tax unless they don't look in your bags. Be careful when you buy pirated software, the customs and Chinese gov't are cracking down on it pretty hard.

EDIT: Make sure he's good at bargaining or they will rip you off! I was cussing them out in English before I got my fans at a decent price.

Wasn't much in Shanghai as far as electronics that was worth buying. Prices weren't really all that great and were often higher than prices back in the States (esp. for the iPod...oof...$100US more expensive for the video iPod). Bluetooth headsets were comparably priced or higher. Tons of USB drives, though. Seemed to be the most common item.


Now, CDs and DVDs....

I did go to Shanghai and went to the biggest electronics store (Pacific Electronics was it?) there. Dug through the whole store for about two hours for my 80 mm Cooler Master and the NB cooler. Remember, bargaining is how things work in China. I can get memory prices about 20% below over here if I find a decent enough owner. Also, the store is run by separate families. Different locations inside the same building will have different prices. Bring a translator, you'll need one to find the best deals.

I went through two cities to get my Cooler Masters (Shanghai and Suzhou).
