Micro Center has a great Labor Day Weekend sale going on. My X58 rig is pretty much in hospice. It's use is just running Netflix and some other media occasionally. I have a spare 5800X3D unopened, and a 2x8 16GB 3800 cl14 kit. Been trying to sell them. Local MC had one X570 Dark Hero board for about a year at full MSRP ($459 or something), a few months ago the listing was gone. Fast forward to today and I configure a new MB in Micro Center's combo deals. 9600X - $149 after in cart with combo, Asus ROG X670E-F Strix $349 ($20 off), and a Flare X 32GB Kit 6000 CL32 kit $109 Just a replacement for the X58 rig. On the way there I'm thinking 9700X? Seasonic 1200 Vertex Gold? and a few other configurations but I decided to keep it at $609 (in cart price) with the parts I listed. I get there, I'm milling around literally not looking at anything but acting like I am cause I'm going over my decision on multiple levels. Walk up to the motherboards, looking for the X670E-F Strix and guess what I see? A sealed Dark Hero VIII board. Sales assistant marks it down from the MSRP to $359

So after I buy it I'm now comparing the costs, pros and cons, etc.

9600X system for $609
5800X3D system for $359

The 9600X would be fun to learn and get into, has 2 more NVME drive slots than the Dark Hero, will have longer security mitigation bios updates, better resale value, ...

The 5800X3D, cheaper, matured system, just a media rig for occasional use, lack of emotional persuasion, less resale value, don't have to worry about selling the CPU and Memory, I can finally open up the 3D and see which of the two I have has a better/higher IF speed, for $249 I can pick up the 1200w Vertex Gold and be on par with the cost of the 9600X system, ...

Sitting around second guessing yourself will always lead to never buying or finishing the project. As you know my recent build replaced my x58 system. My x58 is still running Folding at home 24/7 but I don't miss it now that the PC is up and running. Whether you go AM4 or AM5 it will be way ahead of your old build. As Nike says "just do it".

Well came to my senses and made a decision. Funny thing is, I'm swapping the predetermined usage scenario: my current daily driver, Dark Hero, will end up as the media rig, the sealed BNIB Dark Hero that was supposed to be used for it that I just bought, with my spare 5800X3D and Ram kit, has been returned.

Got her up and running. Forgot I had a windows 10 install on my SSD NVME drive. Best way to get rid of everything on the drive and start from scratch? Looking to install Windows 11 on it,,, Bios Secure Erase? Use Windows disk manager? DISKPART CLEAN?

I'm lazy and I just wipe the target drive using the Windows installer by having it delete all the old partitions on the drive so they become "unassigned space", then let Windows remake everything it needs.

Used the Bios Secure Erase option. And instead of replacing my desktop daily rig I just swapped out the X58 rig for it.
