I wear a plain white hanes t-shirt under every shirt I wear. Not sure why, I just always have and it feels akward without it.

Dress shirts aren't supposed to be worn with undershirts, at least not originally. This was to show off the quality of the fabric, but slowly people began to wear undershirts to protect the shirts and such.

If you are going to wear an undershirt, a white t-shirt is correct, not the wifebeater.

It's 80 here today and one entire wall of my office is a window which faces east so I get morning to noon sun to warm up my space. While it isn't overly hot in here now it can get warm at times and I don't like to sweat.

I wear short sleeve polo shirts or short sleeve button down shirts, not the geeky white ones with the pocket though, and Dockers most days. Shorts and t-shirt on Fridays.

If it's hot and I'm wearing a nice button down or polo shirt, then I'm more likely to wear an undershit, not less likely.

At the end of the day, I'd rather have a very stinky undershirt and a non-stinky polo/button-down rather than just a moderately stinky polo/button-down. This way, I can avoid having to do a machine wash on the shirt (which'll slowly damage it) or pay the price of taking it to a dry cleaner...

Makes sense to me--undershirts cost $9 for a 3-pack...Nice button-downs and polos are well into the double digits...

I always wear undershirts for this exact reason. I have some $50 Polo shirts that are over 4 years old and look new. It makes dressing well affordable.

Yes...Wifebeaters don't keep any sort of sweat away from your outer shirt. For the most part, they're just to keep your gut hidden

i always wear a wife beater, no matter what i'm wearing. i will wear a wife beater even if i wear a plain white t-shirt. i just like it. they feel comfortable to me, and if i don't have one on it feels awkward.

I only wear a wife beater under dress shirts, which is approximately never. I don't like them; far too clingy for my tastes. I like loose clothes. Plus, I don't sweat much, so I don't have to worry about sweat stains or anything.

the only time I wear a shirt underneath something is when it's cold out and I have a sweater on.

in summer, never more than one piece of clothing covering my upper body. (t-shirts only usually)
