This is completely typical of any movie/TV version of any of SK's novels. They have to cut so much out to fit it into the time allowed that it loses everything that we love about SK's writing.

Every time I see a movie based on an SK novel, I swear it's the last one. But I always cave.

But the greatest movie ever made was based on a SK novel... well, short story

And the book it came from also spawned one other highly regarded (although not quite as) movie, and a decent one as well. There's a reason the 4th one never got made... it wasn't very good.

Also, I enjoyed the Mist.

But they had 13 episodes... and they basically changed the entire story for no reason. The book ending wasn't exactly strong but holy shit this was bad.

This show is awful, but I started watching it so I'm still watching. I actually gave up after 10 episodes and read the book summary, but apparently the show is only loosely based on the book. So I'm back to the terrible show.

Question - is the butterfly bullshit in the book? Because it's terrible. As terrible as the acting and writing on this show.

The blonde is cute though.

When I read the Wiki page on Under The Dome I don't recall the butterfly shit being mentioned.

When I read the Wiki page on Under The Dome I don't recall the butterfly shit being mentioned.

There was no butterfly, no "monarch", no egg/mini-dome, and Barbie was a hell of a lot more of a mystery.
I'm hoping the military searching for Barbie holds the one Colonel or whatever rank that Barbie knows quite well and work together.

I'm also pretty sure Junior was never anything but a pain in the ass, as in, was not part of any inner-circles. The children seizure thing and connection to the dome was a big part of the end-story.

I don't think anyone saw visions of other people, and the entities behind the dome had no interaction with the victims, and had no intention of "helping", until the very, very end.

I'll watch Season 2 when it comes around, just to see where they take this. I'm enjoying seeing some elements of the book presented on screen, but it's also it's own story. I definitely enjoyed the book, cover to cover, and enjoyed the book's ending. I felt there really wasn't any other way that story could conceivably end.

CBS today announced premiere dates for its two scripted summer event series—UNDER THE DOME and EXTANT, both produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television.

*

UNDER THE DOME returns for its sophomore season on Monday, June 30 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).* The premiere episode will be written by Stephen King, whose bestselling novel the series is based on. UNDER THE DOME was last summer's #1 program, averaging 15.06 million viewers and 3.9/11 in adults 18-49, ranking as the most-watched scripted summer series in 21 years.

*

UNDER THE DOME tells the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome.* The town's inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.

Under the Dome was a pretty lame book - I usually like most Stephen King stuff but that one was a long-winded stinker with a crappy ending. The stuff he has written since then has been pretty good.

I just picked up Doctor Sleep... It's about the kid in The Shining, Danny Torrence, decades after the horrors in the Overlook Hotel. Looking forward to reading it!

Under the Dome could have been a good, one-shot, 13 episode series with a definitive timeline and a planned ending. By about the 3rd episode though you could really feel the padding and the aimlessness of it where they were trying to keep it open-ended in case it was a hit. It's just going to turn into another Lost where they pile bullshit on top of bullshit to try to keep the mysteries unresolved.

Yeah, sadly I feel the same.

There are so many King stories that would be awesome in a "True Detective" type format, but they are usually squished into a single movie, or stretched out into a stream of horse plop.

Is this season extending from the book? I read the book long ago so i never bothered with the show, but i thought season 1 would have ended like the book.

Stephen King wrote the premiere of season 2, IIRC.

I don't care for the high school teacher... She teaches science at school-high and is suddenly the resident science (*.*) expert.
