I don't care if kids drink alcohol, if they're taught responsible use its no big deal.

I just say increase the penalty on drinking and driving.. make it so if you're caught you lose your car permanantly, and if you actually involved in an accident while drunk (even if you could prove it wasn't exactly your fault) that you'd be held liable to the maximum extent of the law, and if in fact you killed someone while driving drunk, you got life in prison. Make that public and then prosecute a few people that way and watch what happens to the drunk driving numbers.

Honestly not in the least. Ok maybe a tiny bit but not really at all.

I drank underage and so did everyone I know. In the US where the age is 21 (18 or 19 in canada depending on province) it's even more tempting. Sure the driving part is bad but adults do that as well. Except for a few rare cases where somebody at the age of 13 turns into an alcoholic there is no problem in my mind in a high school kid putting back a half case and vomitting if that's what they like to do every weekend. It's part of growing up

I didn't drink until I turned 21 (and neither did the people I hung out with, so it was no big deal). But when I did turn 21, I suddenly felt this tremendous curiosity & pressure, because now I was legal. Not that anyone was holding a gun to my head and putting a beer in my hand, but I just felt like "everyone was doing it", and so I must be missing out on something if I'm not doing it, too...

It's not as bad anymore (I'm 22); I have the occasional social drink, but not much more. But I think that there would be a lot less pressure & curiosity if the drinking age were lowered. I don't have a problem with underage drinking, although I don't think I'd supply the alcohol.

But agree with the majority here - drinking & driving, at ANY age, needs to have severe & immediate consequences. I think it'd be a wonderful law for anyone convicted of driving under the influence to immediately lose their vehicle. I doubt it'd hold up in court, but I think that would be great. Just think - we could probably balance the budget with the sale of all the confiscated cars!

yeah I think its BS...if a club or a bar wants to have 21 and up night thats fine...but an underage person should be able to legally buy liquor and consume it in their home.

You should be able to do anything you want in the privacy of your own home. Anything.

I TOTALLY AGREE.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

also- about the drinking age-

I don't really care about it because it is so arbitrarily placed. In some countries its 21 (these places suck), some its 18-19, some they couldnt care less how old you are.

unrealistic scenario meant to illustrate my point:
If i am 19 years old, and standing on the US side of the US-Canadian border, and there is a case of beer on the Canadian side, I don't see how its any more legal for me to take one step over the border (Canadian Territory) and drink a couple beers, than it is for me to pull the whole case back to my side and drink them there (US territory).

also, in most states, if you're 18, you can brew your own beer, you just can't drink it.

ebaycj out.

blue laws here in texas were pretty bad when i moved here. grocery stores weren't allowed to be open then. of course, you could drink and drive. my father found it to be such a novelty that he got a beer and saluted a cop with it.

now its beer until midnight, 1 on saturdays, at grocery stores. drinks until midnight at restaurants, drinks until 2 at bars. i'm not sure what time it is in the morning they start selling again.

until last september you could be the passenger in a car and drink as much as you wanted. that was nice. now they've closed that "loophole."

nope. back in high school my mom let my friends and myself drink at our house, as long as no one would drive. (she dosen't condone underage drinking but knows that it is going to happen and wants us to be safe.)

i read somewhere that north dakota has the highest percentage of underage drinkers in america... can't remember where though.

I don't really care if people drink underage......either under 21 or 18, doesn't bother me. And in all reality, most high-schoolers have had a few drinks before they're 18.

If they act irresponsibly when drinking, as in getting drunk and breaking stuff, hurting people, then I care. If they go driving while they're drunk, then they're just stupid and should be put in jail for a while. Alcohol isn't going to hurt you if you don't drink too much and not too often. I don't see a reason why there are age-restrictions on alcohol.

It's against the law, so it shouldn't be done. Those that do should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I did not drink until 21.

That's because there is nothing else to do there.

I do condone underage drinking although I will not buy it for them.

I do not condone drinking and driving.

Since when did underage drinking become synonymous with drunk driving?

Thats not very good reasoning.

Why??
it used to be against the law to help free a slave
...
laws are made by man
they are not the final answer in questions of morality IMHO

Do you agree with all laws? There's tons of laws that I disagree with......

Just because there is a law against something does not mean it is morally wrong.

By saying something shouldn't be done because it is illegal shows that you would blindly follow the government, even if their laws went against your personal beliefs.
