Is Overlord 2 better than the first? Not that the first one was bad, but it didn't hold my interest very long.

I never played the first one so I can't really comment. What I can say about #2 is that it was quite a funny game. Being evil never put the same maniacal grin on my face like this one did. The minions are very diverse, with the ability to mount animals for different abilities, stealth, throwing fireballs.. You can sail ships.

It did have a few weak points though that I can hardly remember. Raiding towns for completion status was a grind. There are a lot of customization options for the overlord but it seemed that the resources were so hard to come by that you had to take what you could get instead of actually having options. I never did quite figure out how spellcasting worked as it was a little strange.

I would strongly advise against this game if you don't use an xbox controller.

This is part of the reason I dont like modern schools: They teach vastly different definitions of words.

List some underrated games here and why you think they are underrated:
Diablo 3

- underrated from the start IMO. auction house sucked but it is now gone
- gameplay has been very polished from the beginning
- name a dungeon crawler ARPG that looks anywhere near as good or plays anywhere near as smooth

Diablo 3 has absolutely no replayability. Go through it, beat it.. its the same thing every time. BORING. You can beat this game in a day or two.

State of Decay.

Flew completely under my radar, picked it up in a steam sale, and had a blast with it.

Hard Reset

A fast paced FPS based on old school mechanics. You get two weapons but each has different 5 modes so you get all variety you need. The gameplay is its biggest asset but the atmosphere is also excellent as its set in a Blade Runner type environment. The story was good to my surprise, there are not that many characters in the game as well but they are portrayed very well with the comic book style cut scenes, the soundtrack was good too. Hopefully a second game is made.

Blizzard knew what they were doing, they milked the auction house, to which I am sure that banked at least 1 Billion in revenue from, yes that's right 1 billion or more. Then they said okay lets get rid of it and add some new content then throw the game out on console to get even more revenue. The game is a joke, always was and always will be. The only people still playing it are people who never played the previous games, or those who just cant admit the game is a failure by all merits. Don't forget the console kiddies.

Aside from that, an underrated game that I would have to throw out there would definitely have to be Viva Pinata, great game, beautiful, fun, relaxing, definitely a game that a lot of pc gamers tossed to the curb.

supcom 2.
deus ex 2.

for both, the argument is that their predecessors were better; i agree, but taken on their own, they were still respectable, fun games.

Funny you should mention SupCom2, it reminded me of this:

I quite enjoyed Total Annihilation: Kingdoms, it wasn't as good as TA but it was still a good game in it's own right.

Also TAK reminds me of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning which I also enjoyed but didn;t get the traction it deserved.

No One Lives Forever 1&2 : The humorous bad guys, the swinging 60's soundtrack, the gadgets (exploding pussy & pheromone robot love-dog anyone? (distracts pursuing guard dogs by making them horny) :biggrin Back when FPS's didn't take themselves too seriously.

QUBE : Initially I thought it would be a cheap ripoff of Portal, but it was actually very good & challenging towards the second half. Not as funny as Glados, but still well worth playing if you loved Portal.

Serious Sam FE & SE : I found these two to be more of a sequel to Doom 2's style of play than the slower paced Doom3 was.

Torchlight 1&2 : I still think these are the best sequels to Diablo 2 in terms of "fluid funness", moreso than Diablo 3 (and with a fraction of the hype). No always on DRM or blatant in-game "monetized auction house" financial ripoffs either. Both still look great with HD texture mod packs added even on low-end hardware. Very efficient engines.

Freecell-Played by more people than all the players who ever played any COD game. Playe by more players than all the people who have ever owned any Gaming Console. Yet Microsoft refuses to develop the AAA Freecell 2!

I never played the original Diablo, but I have played hack and slash games. I thought Diablo 3 was decent. I don't know what one would want different the make it more replayable. You have different classes and different difficulty levels, pretty much what every other game has. My biggest complaint was the always on-line requirement, especially since Blizzard kept locking my account mistakenly, and I never could figure why. It wasn't great or groundbreaking, but perhaps expectations were too high.

I know a lot disagree, but I liked sup com 2 as well. Not saying it was up to the original, but I had fun with it. If I recall correctly though, some units, at least initially were way overpowered.

I thought it was better than Total Annihilation. Your factions were actually different from each other. And the campaign was freakin awesome. It had a mix of fun gimmick missions and hardcore long grinding missions.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

Was underrated, and today is pretty much forgotten. At the time it DID have performance-related issues (frame-rate issues, v-sync-related issues and stuttering to name those by heart, which I experienced myself, but was never a game breaker per say) but unfortunately many couldn't get past those to enjoy the actual game.

And the underrated part wasn't the story, which itself wasn't exactly complex nor full of mind-blowing and unexpected twists (although it wasn't bad either). It's the game-play that was fun, the melee combat system within first-person view wasn't common back then (it wasn't just a single melee option, it was things along the line of kicking the enemy on a wall of spikes, using the environment and enemy-traps against them). I also liked that the game was fully voiced in both English and French (and maybe other languages that I'm not aware of). If you switched your Steam's UI language to French (for example) then upon launching the game it would switch to its French version (with voices). That was a neat thing and I played both versions to the end (which also allowed me to choose different paths when I could).

I mean Dark Messiah in my book isn't a masterpiece, I'm not praising it like I would for something like Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Mass Effect or Super Metroid. But Dark Messiah was underrated, still is today by those whom can still remember that it even existed. And side note, it's the same guys that made Arx Fatalis and more recently Dishonored (they also contributed to the development of BioShock 2), namely Arkane Studios, got respect for them.
Agreed, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was an underrated game and I thought it was great!
And I vote Singularity as another good unnoticed / underrated game that I really enjoyed.

Um, what? Deus Ex is regarded as one of the classics of PC gaming.

++ this.

Modern Warfare 2 single player is pretty good. Just beat it today. That game gets a lot of shit.

Too bad the multiplayer is so filled with hackers on PC that its literally impossible to play for any length of time without your rank getting reset or some bs.
